RE: Top 500

Hurrah! That's an accomplishment. And given the potential for some of them to go quite far, what milestone should we wish for next?

While yes, there is real potential for some of the doublers to advance and all the best to them, 20 in the top 500 is nothing new for them and I would say it has been at least that for most of the last couple of years and maybe longer.

It was more unusual that it did drop below 20 quite recently, but at the end of last year was 24 ( 23 in the top 400 ) and while we have lost Ross Hutchins, Sean Thornley and Jamie Delgado from the rankings then some dropout each year is to be expected.

Just got back online after 18 hours without internet. Oh, the joys of these "low-tech" countries.

However, it was great to log on and see further wins for Evan, Lloyd and Luke - three of my main candidates for Top 500 status.

It's official now 15 & 9

Steven's tables are a big help to see how these are likely to change - February looks a potential issue for a few players to stay in (Ed, Marcus etc)

The good news is that Ed has an early start planned in the US, so may be able to cover those big point drops

Bambo is on the cusp - a win should be enough tomorrow

Neil is getting closer. I wonder when he will start back in the new year?

Dan C is the real worry about dropping out.

Looking at the points due to come off on 01/02 and 08/02, generally due to last year's early British futures and the Glasgow challenger, there are a few players facing relatively big points drops to the 70s in ranking points.

It looks though that they should just about all survive in the top 500 ( current WR 500 is on 74 points ) with just Marcus, who faces falling to the 60s, dropping out.

The relevant players then have a period of leeway thereafter and hopefully will start adding points again and indeed others move towards that top 500. This year's first British future will add at 15/02.

Points and GB rankings as at 08/02 if no further points added by then :

10. Lloyd : 86
11. Dan C : 78 ( 121 - 43 )
12/13. Ed : 77 ( 89 + 4 - 16 )
12/13. Richard : 77
14. Dan S : 75 ( 94 + 8 - 27 )

15. Luke : 72 ( 73 - 1 )
16. Marcus : 69 ( 83 + 2 - 16 )
17. David : 67 ( 68 - 1 )
18. Neil : 60 ( 61 - 1 )
19. Evan : 56
20. Joe : 45 ( 46 + 1 - 2 )

By the way, does anyone know for sure Dan Cox's situation? He seems to be doing more coaching, but I am unclear about his competitive plans.

He didn't enter the GB 10k, mind you nor did Marcus....

Live ranking has Bambo sneaking into the top 500, but I'm not 100% convinced that will happen until he picks up points in one of the GB 10ks

Marcus' injury from last week is clearly more than just a little tweak, which is what I was hoping.  He is still in Tunisia and I guess was planning to play again this week, but he is not on the drawsheet.

Looks like Marcus and Dan are going to be out of the picture as they don't seem to be playing(or playing full time anyway) and Ed is really struggling at present, so the quest may take a lot longer.

Yes, but Marcus will drop out this week and Ed and Dan C are getting close to dropping out.

As Paulisi stated above, Marcus dropped out.

Luke has dropped from 500 to 501.  He'll be back though smile

Thanks Luke.  Who's next ?  Hoping Evan's 3 week stint in Egypt might do the trick for him.

well, you've got Neil, and Dave, and Evan, and Joe, all playing this week - so a couple of decent runs could get some more knocking on that door.

And Ed and Dan S and Dan C also playing and all could do with some points to prevent the Big Drop some time soon.....

Fingers crossed for you....
