RE: Top 500

In the latest 11.04 rankings we still have 15 men in the top 500 and 8 in the top 250.

I do note though ( with points added by Oscar Weightman and Blu Baker ) that we now have 20 in the race top 500 ( 8 in the top 250 )

Of course still early in the year and just 12 points so far this year is enough to get Blu and Stuart Parker into the race top 500 whereas it will probably need a full year of in the 60s in points to get into the full year top 500 rankings.

Men's WR for w/c 11 apr 22

So in Men's singles, there is almost no change at the top of the net point gain chart, whereas in WR gains, there is a very noticable change. Oscar jumps up 460 places thanks to his recent M15 ITF win to just outside the Top800. Just a few places ahead in the WRs is Blu who's net 59 place rise this month takes him into the Top800. Elsewhere this week Kyle slips outside the Top300.

Number of GB players in the Singles Top500 stays at 15.

In doubles, it is similarly quiet.  Ken disppears from the net point gain chart, after some points drop off this week. In WR gains, Oscar is also the notable mover, up 77 places at this point of the month.

Number of GB plants in the Doubles Top500 stays at 21.

From the Italy M25 thread :

Pity re Jack but does move him into the provisional (for 25/04) GB ranked #16 to #19 squad.

Jan 53 points, Dan C 52, Jack PJ 51, Stuart 50, all ranked around the mid 500s.

If anyone should say happen to be interested in the chances of 20 in the top 50, with James dropping points and not going to be a future counter anyway, #20 will he Henry P on 37 points with his Nottingham QF points added, with a few others on 30 plus points.

Women's WR for w/c 11 Apr.

So in singles, it's pretty much as you were.  The biggest move this week is Jodie dropping points and as a consequence falling down the rankings. Harriet's time in the Top100 has also now ended for the time being.

The number of GB players in the Top500 is unchanged at 15.

In doubles it is a little bit more interesting.  Tara's recent run to the Bogota final means she sits at net +130 points for the month and finally achieves a Top100 ranking. As in singles, Jodie suffers as she drops her oldest points.

The number of GB players in the Top500 is unchanges at 17.

Men's WR for w/c 18 Apr 22

In singles, the most notable changes this week is in a downwards direction.  Dan drops another tranche of points, meaning his total falls to below 1500 points for the first time since 2020.  Jay and to a lesser extend Kyle and Luke also suffer some set backs this week.

The number of GB players in the singles Top500 stays at 15.

In doubles, Joe's win at Monte Carlo gives his overall points a big boost and means he is now leads in a big way the net point gains for the month.  Jamie's semi final appearance in the same tournament means he is also in positive points territory for the month. And since last week Dan Little climbs a further 9 places which although small takes his total for the month to +208, taking him into the Top600. Going in the reverse direction are Neal and Dan.  Neal's ranking doesn't suffer, but Dan finds himself tumbling outside of the Top100.

The number of GB players in the doubles Top500 stays at 21.

Women's WR for w/c 18 Apr 22

It's another quiet week in singles.  Although she hasn't added any more points, Heather creeps closer to Harriet and claiming back GB#2. This week also sees Tara slip a few WR places and back outside the Top400.

The number of GB players in the singles Top500 stays at 15.

In doubles this week Sam, Alicia and Olivia now join Tara in putting some good points on their tallies for the month.  In terms of ranking gains, Abigail and Emma continue to sit at the top thanks to them starting at a low WR. Elsewhere after spending the last couple of weeks back in the Top500, Katie Swan once again drops out this week.

The number of GB players in the doubles Top500 is now 16 (-1, Katie Swan).

So with Henry P's Nottingham 25K RU week, we will now have 20 in about the top 560 on Monday week.

15 in the top 500 and, with Henry coming in to the next batch rather than James, an active and very close #16 to #20, individually each well within reach of the top 500. The live WR 500 is on 67 points.

Points on 02/05 :

13. Felix 89
14. Anton 88
15. Charles 73

16. Jan 54
17. Henry 53
18. Stuart 53
19. Dan C 52
20. Jack PJ 51

21. Harry 36
22. Ryan S 35
23. Luke J 34

Re top 250 possibilities, we continue to have 8 in the live top 250 and 2 more just outside the live top 300.

Provisional 02/05 ranking points :

7. Ryan P 244
8. Paul 231

Live WR 250. 206

Live WR 300. 164

9. Ali G 157
10. Aidan 155
11. Kyle 146
12. Billy 109

So, especially with Kyle still out for however long ( may turn out to be more relevant to the top 500 numbers ) we need Ali and Aidan to gather in these points.

We are closer in number of players to the 10 in the top 250 target but, with the gathering at ranks #16 to 20, the 20 in the top 500 target feels maybe more on?

I'm still not convinced it will happen for a while yet.
The boys ranked in the 500's need to go deep at at 25k and given they are all in the UK, it's unlikely to happen there as they will be unseeded or draw each other. Much better chance when they travel to different tournaments.
Even the grass is likely to be no ranking points if the ATP/WTA get their way

As for the two in top 250. Depends on when and if Kyle returns and if one of the others goes deep in a couple of challengers

Yes, but 3 months ago or so, Charlie Broom was miles outside and no one could see him in the top 500

Four months ago Felix was 650 or so and practically no one was talking about him in the top 500. Although he had his fans.... :)

Seven months ago, Ali G was outside the top 1000 and practically no one () was thinking he was a contender for top 500.

Jack PJ is a shoo-in. Henry Patten is looking on very good form. Arthur would be one of my picks. You'd think out of Dan/Jan/Stuart, there's a good chance that one (no idea which) will have a good run somewhere. There's big points on offer this summer.

Obviously, if ATP takes the points away, it all goes a bit south. But assuming they don't (and I don't think they will), then I think big jumps are quite likely.

Yes, it's not going to happen anything like overnight, nor do I think that was being suggested. Clearly most of the GB top 500 contenders can't have big individual home ITF weeks simultaneously. ( and there may be these issues to come with home ATPs ). But in general these additional home 25Ks are good for our players' overall progression up the rankings over time as well as having other benefits.

From how the depth looked in GB men's tennis less than a year ago to Mr Gloomy back then, I have been so encouraged by what has transpired since then and by the potential for the rest of the year and into next year..

20 in the live top 561    - with #20 ( Jack PJ ) 16 points ( a 25K RU spot ) away from the live #500. And JPJ is actually one player who is playing Italian clay 25Ks ( though in the short term I see that he has withdrawn from this week's event and will drop 6 points on 09/05 ).

Men's WR for w/c 25 Apr

So in singles, Jack finishes the month with the biggest points gain which helped him achieve his CH this month. It's a similar story for Paul, Alastair, Billy and Charles who also claimed their CHs as a result of their gains.  In terms of WR gains, Oscar finished the month miles ahead of everyone else.  Elsewhere, while not amongst the biggest gainers in April, Billy consolidates his place in the Top400 and Felix in the Top500.  Going biggest in the other direct is James Ward (retired).

The number of GB players in the singles Top500 stays at 15.

In doubles, the biggest gainers for the month were Joe (points) and Jack PJ (ranking places). Meanwhile Dan finishes the month by shedding a few more points and places.  A number of the guys in the 400 to 700 WR region finish the month well climbing further up the rankings.

The number of GB players in the doubles Top500 is now 23 (+2, Ryan, Jay). This is the highest number since going back at least to Jan 2021.

Women's WR for w/c 25 Apr

So April ends with Emma filling 1st place for point gains. Heather's 2nd place takes her to within 1 place of taking back GB#2, while  Anna's +12 net points and 3rd place corresponds to a climb of 140+ places, the best of the month and takes her into the Top800.

The number of GB players in the singles Top500 stays at 15.

In doubles, April was a great month for the top players.  Tara's +130 points took her to first place, a Top100 place and a CH. Just as impressive was the partnership of Olivia and Alicia's during the month, while Sam's now just 4 places from becoming a Top100 player. They along with 5th place Ali clocked up CHs too.

The number of GB players in the doubles Top500 stays at 16.
