Top 500

Exciting times for followers of British women. It's a pity Em has left the top 500 as 14 inside the benchmark would be the best since Year End 2000 (I think, E&OE!). If only Sam had been given the WCQ we felt was her due fairly certain, given her vein of form, that she would have been back inside the mark on the Monday after Wimby too. All being well, Sam will make it soon anyway :)

Well, Bob - you must be feeling a little 'tingle'....

With Marcus and Dan Cox well on the way to back in the top 500....

and Cameron a no-brainer for top-500 if he plays enough tournaments...

and Farris a possible too, if uninjured and playing again...

and, of course, Jonny and Bambo well possible to get there (re-get there) soon

and Evan, if uninjured...

and Joe S, if he too is now back to full form (although he has his huge counter coming up quite soon)

and only Gabb and Milton in danger possibly of falling out ....

getting excited????

Still a way off I fear CD. My gut feeling is that we won't see much more of Milts on the circuit, although I hope I am wrong. So even if Rich G can hang in there, that only leaves us with 11 at the current time.

Agreed that there are some good prospects but they are still a way off. Cam might scrape in over the summer, but he still has another year (or is it two) at college. Farris is a possible but not until his college committments are completed. Of the others you have mentioned, I would agree with them all, with the possible exception of Joe. He certainly has the ability in my opinion but recently has seemed to focus more on doubles and not played a lot of singles.

As an outside bet (if he can recover from injury and get some support) I would put Billy Harris on the list. When he gets it right, he has a really big game.

In a year or so, we may have a couple more.  I am yet to see Ryan Storrie but have heard good things.  Joel is another I have high hopes for.  He has't played much at all recently, but i am guessing that is down to A Levels etc.  I hope to see him playing again soon.  I know he was training at the NTTC last week.

I can see the situation improving over the next few months, but just about every "possible" would have to fall into place to reach the Holy Grail of 20.

Oh OK then.  I'll play.

By the end of 2016 we will have 16 in the Top 500.

By the end of 2017 we will have 20 in the top 500.

After all, having seen what Marcus has done this last 2 weeks, ANYTHING is possible.

Given Cam's efforts so far this week, he may well get there sooner rather than later. If he can win his final today, he will only be 4 or 5 points short, and he is playing again next week.

I fear after many chats with a lot of our middle ranked players, that lack of financing, the removal of the bonus scheme, and with only a few Itf's being held here now, that we will never see 20 in the top 500. It really is a depressing picture out there currently for anybody outside the top 200. Now of course we could quickly change that picture by putting on far more future's tournaments again, but I won't hold my breath.

The women look poised to overtake the men in the top 500 stakes post Wimbledon.

Women : Currently 11, will add Lisa and Katie B and retain Katie S if she plays her R1 Wimbledon match with its 10 points. So on course for 13.

Men : Currently 12, Josh Milton currently looking at 72 points, which will be borderline to stay in. On course seemingly for 12 at best. Though if Marcus wins his FQR and R1 in the main draw ...

In the slightly longer term Marcus and Dan C back on circuit should not take too long to get back in nor Sam in the ladies.

Or maybe not. Some guy just found a short term answer  biggrin

Granted it may not have been his #1 motivation

Now, there you go ....

Look what happens when you get your 'game face' on smilesmilesmile

Marcus, Cam - they're all suddenly zooming in.....

All you need is for Tom F to suddenly have a run out of nowhere......

We are on the charge.  That will be 14 now although we are close to losing Josh Milton.

I see Tom is playing this week in Belgium. He is certainly capable of crossing that all important threshold.  Not sure if this is a comeback or a one off though.  Somewhere in the back of my mind, I have a vague memory that he was coaching in Belgium ?  (Could be way off the mark with that one).  If that is the case, this may just be a one off.

Yes, I think Tom F is a bit of a outside bet too....

NB He's playing doubles with Jarryd in Belgium, who is a coach at The Weald Lawn Tennis club, I believe. Don't know if they work together at all? Would make sense that he was coaching in Belgium (Tom, that is) if he's playing there.

But Tom's just a possible....

I'm now rooting for Keelan too Or indeed any of the 'long shots'....

For Jonny and the others, there's no question - they know their duty - England expects and all that......

Yes.  I have had a word with several of them, including Jonny, Scott, Evan etc.  Hoping that Joe plays a lot more singles now as his performance in the Wimbledon Qualies reminded us all that he is very capable of making it too.  And Dan C confirmed to me that he was going back on the tour full time.  Add Luke and Neil P to that list and we are almost there. smile

Err, Britain expects surely rather than England, especially when Jonny O'Mara was specifically cited.

Yes, I thought someone would pick me up on that.....

But I was trying to be authentic....

The original (Nelson?) was 'England expects...', wasn't it?

But, I agree, we could move with the times....
