RE: Top 500

Men's doubles WR for w/c 26 Sep

So over September, Neal came out on top for net points gained, with +1100 points, the biggest monthly haul this year.  The appearances by Lloyd (2nd) and Henry (3rd) means they have made this chart for 5 consecutive months (since May 2022). In terms of week-on-week changes, Charles Broom experiences a big move up, along with Aidan, Stuart, and just popping in at the bottom of the graph, a name from the past, Marcus Wilis, who jumps up 230 places.  Falling down the rankings big style this week is Liam (down to WR 831).

Women's singles WR for w/c 26 sep

So for the 2nd month in a row Katie Swan finishes top of the table for net points, adding 109 points over the course of September.  Her good form in September has resulted in her climbing up to GB#3 and leaves in 2nd place for net points gained throughout the year.  Amarni Banks also makes in 2 months in a row, coming in 3rd place this month and adding a further 30 net points to her total. She is now running in 7th place for net points YTD. In terms of week on week changes, Fran stands out down almost 200 places.

So for the 7th month in a row, a different player comes out top for net points gained in the month.  This time it is Ali Collins, who just edges out Harriet, +117 points vs +109. The 4 players who have burst into the Top800 graph this year (Maia, Eliz, Lauryn, Sonay) consolidate their positions in the rankings this week, while Emilie has now recovered all of her losses from the start of the month.

Not really top 500, but I was looking at these bizarre LTA combined rankings

competitions.lta.org.uk/ranking/ranking.aspx

Apart from the fact they arent really used or relevant, the mens and womens lists all have the names youd expect to see- apart from one. Womens top 10 has Sacha Vickery !? Who?! What?! How?!

Not being mean, Im sure she is a great player , but it feels a bit left field?!

Well she's currently ranked 181. She is registered with the LTA as a Middlesex player, but why is a mystery.

Men's singles WR for w/c 03 Oct

So the big week on week moves this week are Blu's climb into the Top700, Felix's move to the cusp of a Top400 WR and Liam's bounce back up towards Ryan. Dropping down the rankings the most are Alastair and Mark. In terms of meeting the Bob threshold, the number of players in the Top500 remains at 17, but as can be seen by the bottom right graph, the men are as close as they have been since before summertime to hitting the magic number of 20, with GB's 20th placed player (currently Kyle) 'just' 52 places from a Top500 ranking (with obviously the 18th and 19th placed players being even closer).

Men's doubles rankings for w/c 3 Oct

So the big week on week rises were Luke, Scott, and making his first appearence in the Top800, James Mackinlay (at 753). Dropping down were Ken (who started the year as GB#4) and Dom (was GB#6). In doubles, the Bob threshold was achieved ages ago.  This week just cements the situation with the number in the Top 500 now back up at 23 (highest since June), and the 20th ranked player (Giles) moving up to 444th in the world.

Women's singles WR for w/c 3 Oct.

So this week, there was no big move up the rankings, although Katie Boulter does move past both Jodie and Heather to become GB#4. Elsewhere, Harriet drifts down towards the edge of falling out of the Top100. Matlida, Amanda and Sam clock up some big losses this week. In terms of 20 in the Top500, it now looks like summer may have been a high point. Currently there are only 14 players in the Top500 and the GB's 20th player (currently Sam) is now more than 100 WR places away from that level.

Women's doubles WR for w/c 3 Oct

This week Eliz continues her slow and steady climb up the rankings, although Jodie continues to just keep her nose in front of her. Like in singles, this week it's drops which are more noticable - Beth, Eden and Sonay.  In terms of the Bob threshold, the doubles remain stubornly static, with 17 inside the Top500 and the 20th player (currently Katie) around 100 places away.

The top 500 cut off keeps moving upwards, making it harder to hit that magical 20.

Live rankings show Henry dropping out and Giles moving in.
JPJ, who had already lost, cannot get there for a while now, JoMo and Arthur closing in.

Yes, it was always going to be tough to hit your prediction of 20 in Novemeber - but there's still time - and it's good to be optimistic

The next two GB 25ks will be important - JoMo is a good contender, as he's playing both, in form and has no points to come off.

Arthur's obviously right up there, high on the list

And certain outliers like Brady, and Hurrion, as well as closer ones like Harry W, are all possible for big jumps, even if not quite top-500

But, for the record:

10/10/22

17 men in the top-500
8 men in the top-250
