Top 500

Wimbledon will obviously will be the biggie - and, yes,it'll depend on wildcards (obviously) - MD wildcards may go to Ryan P and Paul Jubb (as well as Liam, jack, Jay etc....). Similarly, a large number will get quali places (arthur, Felix, jack, the winner of the U18s, as well as Ali and Anton (or MD?), Aidan etc. etc. etc. There's a big room for major shifts.....it feels different from previous years, just in the density of players on the up in each section

Well lets hope so. My prediction is we will see Jack D become a household name by the end of the grass, I really think so. Its hard to tell with the other men who will stand out; I hope both Jack D and Liam crack the top 100, and we see one of the others crack the top 200.

The good news is there arent many points to defend for our guys. Cam of course reached queens final; Dan got through a few rounds here and there but didnt go really deep. Jack of course got to the last 8, with Dan, at queens and Liam got one or two wins. No one else really has anything to defend over the grass season- so any wins will add something ,hopefully, to their totals !

Men move up to 15 in the top 500, as Charles Broom makes a welcome entry

But - keeping the suspense - we also move up to 8 in the top 250 as Paul Jubb zooms in......

We also have 8 women in the top 250 and 15 women in the top 500.

Not so good at the very top end though we have managed to keep 2 in the top 100 as against 4 men.

Maybe that that is the real race - men or women, 10 in 250 or 20 in 500? Which sex and which target will be first ?

 That's quite a coincidence

Slightly left field - Tennis Abstract has a "GB" against this player, Matteo Arnaldi

www.tennisabstract.com/cgi-bin/player.cgi

He seems to be Italy on the ATP site, presumably this is an error from Tennis Abstract - he is ranked 334 so would be a nice little addition if it turned out to not be a mistake?

A very nice addition - inside the Top 500 but outside the Top 250.  Could do with a couple more of those wink

I'm fairly sure it's a mistake - TA tends to be slow to change nationalities, the ITF still has him as ITA and a quick google produces his Instagram page, where he has put " Tennis Player "

Men's WR for w/c 04 Apr

This week there are some small but significant moves.

So there is only one place to start this week and that is in doubles, where Joe moves up just one place, but in doing so becomes WR#1, joining an incredibly exclusive group of GB players to achieve the feat (including Andy in singles, Jamie in doubles, Alfie and Gordon in wheelchair singles). Both Jonny and Ken log some good points to start April while in terms of ranking gains there are lots of positive moves in the 400 to 700 region (Felix, Ben, Charles, Henry, Anton) but the plaudits this week go to Dan Little who shoots up almost 200 places to WR 608.

The number of GB players in the doubles Top500 is 21 (+2, Ben and Henry).

In singles, similarly while Cam only climbs a couple of places, it means he now becomes a Top10 player. Meanwhile Jack currently leads in net point gained thanks to his most recent success, with Paul in 2nd place as a result of his 1st challenger title. Their points gain, mean they also climb the ranking as does Charles and Alastair.  Kyle drops again and is now on the verge of falling out of the GB Top10.

The number of GB player in the singles Top500 is 15 (+1, Charles).

Women's WR for w/c 4 Apr

So in singles, its a pretty quiet start to April.  Heather takes a heathly early lead in points gained, thanks to her two wins at Miami and in the process closes the gap on Harriet. Sonay adds a few more points and a climbs a few more ranking positions, while Gabby Taylor finally drops off the bottom of the WR, as her remaining points from 2 years ago begin to drop.

The number of GB players in the Singles Top500 is unchanged at 15

In doubles, Katie Swan's 15 point gain is enough to push her back into the Top500, while Eliz's great start to the year continues. Other than that.....there's not much to note.

The number of GB players in the Doubles Top500 is 17 (+1, Katie)

In the latest 11.04 rankings we still have 15 men in the top 500 and 8 in the top 250.

I do note though ( with points added by Oscar Weightman and Blu Baker ) that we now have 20 in the race top 500 ( 8 in the top 250 )

Of course still early in the year and just 12 points so far this year is enough to get Blu and Stuart Parker into the race top 500 whereas it will probably need a full year of in the 60s in points to get into the full year top 500 rankings.
