Mirabelle's R2 match has started, versus Mathilde MALM (SWE) (wc), an unranked 19 year-old

NB Just a little mention for 16 year-old Kassandra Devesne (FRA) who yesterday beat the top seed, and WR 409 player

lost 6-0 6-1

Mirabelle is probably not far off her correct ranking now - as she is a regular QF with the occasional SF, but not quite ready to push on to the next level yet.

That was a step up in opposition with only 6 points won behind 18 first serves in set 1; a learning experience and hopefully she'll come back with answers soon :)

It seems so weird to consistently reach the same round in EVERY tournament bar one in recent months. Her consistency is almost weird!

Yes smile

And what's even weirder is that it's always been so.

That is, she was a 100% consistent qualifier, then a 100% consistent R1 winner, then a 100% consistent Q-Finalist etc.

All SO steady. Let's hope it goes on.

But like paulisi, I think she's about at the right level now.

She should (with her seeding) have no trouble converting most of the 1-pointers into 2-pointers, so will inch further up and make the top 600 (which is a little higher than the 650 I'd got her at for year-end at the start of the year).

But making a proper breakthrough will demand a heap of semis, if she wants to keep the 'consistent' approach (or a few finals, a title or two, if she wants to do it the other way).

However, given she's still a junior, it's all very good and she's obviously very committed to her tennis, and determined. There's plenty of time ahead to make the move up.
