Our other new junior on the block (along with Joel Cannell) who seems to be giving the pro tennis tour a real go (and skipping the uni/college route) is Jonathan Gray - currently on serve at the start of his match.
I don't rate Kanar (7th seed) very highly - will be interesting to see how close it is......

Erm...
L16: (7) Jonathan Kanar (FRA) WR 751 defeated Jonathan Gray WR 2213 by 4 & 3
Beating 18-year-old Jonathan Gray does not mean that he's suddenly a very good player, especially when the first set (and the first game of the second) was very close, before the match got away from him. Gray did pretty well, shame he didn't get the break point at 4-4 in the first and had a chance to serve for the set. But he's hardly one of the very top prospects either, he's going to have to climb his way up (he must be about 1500 now and is going in the right direction).
Kanar plays a lot of tournaments, gets a lot of R1 and R2 wins, tallies up his counters like that, the occasional semi here and there - it's hardly stellar stuff. Many other players (with a similar ranking) are far better.
