Week 42 - Challenger (€50,000) - Bangalore, India (Hard)

L32: (2) James Ward WR 157 v Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan (IND) WR 424 (CH 293 in 2014)

The Indian is a former top 10 junior who then went to college in the US - a sort of Indian Cam Norrie, if you like.

R1:  James Ward & Purav Raja (IND) UNR (*) vs (4) Gerard Granollers & Adrián Menéndez (ESP/ESP) CR 500 (292+208)

(*) James currently has no doubles ranking, but a CH of 233 (August 2011), while Raja's is 95.  At least he's with a half-way decent partner.  Lousy draw, though, weak as it is!

This is guaranteed not to get through the swear filter, but James is now up against lucky loser Lak**** Sood.

Sood has only ever played two Brits in singles in seniors, Jamie Baker in 2009 and James Marsalek in 2012, and he got thrashed 1 & 2 each time. Let's hope this James can hand out more of the same!

James has a very nice draw with no possibility of a seed until the SF ((4), Devvarman) and it would be a real shame to let it slip away at a time where he really needs some points.

Yes, I was initially wondering why James chose India, but looking at the draw he's made a good choice. Obviously he still has to win the matches but that was a nice start and hopefully a couple of wins will get his confidence going again.

Surprised everyone so confident considering Ivashka duffed Ward up only a month ago.

I don't think anybody's being overly confident, just pointing out it's a nice draw and a good opportunity to go deep.
As I said, he still has to win the matches!
