That is extraordinary! I wonder what the reasons might be. I know that Brest isn't all that easy to get to, but the TGV is excellent if a little pricey. French tounaments usually get such excellent support from home players, and there are so many of them! Anyway, let us hope James can make the most of his opportunity.
Off topic I know, but I'm sure I'm not the only person to have noticed the remarkable performance of 17 year old Taylor Fritz. When is the last time a 17 year old won 8 consecutive matches at Challenger level? I've an idea it may have been Raffa.
Can never remember which competitions take the highest ranked players as Lucky Losers, and which take the top four and draw randomly, or any other variation.......
But James is the highest ranked loser - does he have a chance ?

I have no idea if James is in with a shout, but what I will say is if he manages to get a spot as the highest ranked loser in a 106.5k+H challenger with a ranking of 645, he'll be a very lucky loser indeed!!
Would be good if James got a 'LL spot, though certainly initially rather more monetary than pointswise since neither being a Challenger FQR loser or MD R1 competitor would get him ranking points
This week's points should see both Ken and Neal back in the Top 100 on Monday although there will be more work to do if they want to stay there. They both have 35 points coming off on 2nd Nov and another 110 the following week. Once beyond that though, they only have two more scorers totaling 62 points to defend in the next 6 months, so there is a real chance to consolidate that position.
