Week 41 - Egypt F35 ($10,000) - Sharm El Sheikh (Hard)

A few late wildcard entries in the Qualies in Sharm have messed things up in the top half:

QR1: Mason Recci UNR v Giorgio Ricca (ITA) UNR (CH 1922 in Nov. 13)

*Mason will get WR 737 in QR2 if he wins his fist match

QR1: (wc) Jamie Caprice UNR - BYE

QR1: Maniel Bains UNR v (q8) Jan Zednik (CZE) WR 1684

Gabb, Bambo, Jamie W, Jonny, Robbie R and Scott should all be in the MD. Might have well made it a GB 10k.....

But, as above, will now get the current WR 737 Argentinian, Descotte.

Let's hope hard courts are not his fave.....

Well, Mason took me completely unawares, with what must be a lifetime best win. And coach got his win too:

QR2: Mason RECCI (GBR) def. Matias Franco DESCOTTE (ARG) [2] WR 737 6-4 6-0

QR2: Maniel BAINS (GBR) def. Jan ZEDNIK (CZE) [8] WR 1684 7-6(1) 6-2

QR2: Mostafa MOHAMED HATEM (EGY) [15]  def.    Jamie CAPRICE (GBR)     Walkover

That was indeed a career best scalp for Mason - by a long way I don't think he'd beaten a player in the top 1500 before.

Might as well do it with a bagel

FQR: Mason Recci UNR beat (Q9) Frederico Herrera Duran (ARG) WR 1744 (=CH) 6-2 6-1

FQR: Maniel Bains UNR lost to (Q11) Kamil Gajewski (POL) WR 1872 (CH 1866 Sept 2015) 1-3 Retired

Great chance for Mason to get a ranking point too as he has drawn a fellow qualifier in the MD

L32: (Q) Mason Recci UNR v (Q) Kamil Gajewski (POL) WR 1872 (CH 1866 Sept 2015)
L32: Scott Clayton WR 904 v Fabio Mercuri (ITA) WR 1104 (CH 980 Aug 2015)
L32: Robbie Rideout WR 983 v (Q) Szymon Walkow (POL) WR 2174 (CH 1518 Aug 2013)
L32: Luke Bambridge WR 721 v (LL) Joel Kincaid (USA) WR 2230 (CH 1381 June 2010)
L32: Jamie Whiteford WR 1164 v (6) Issam Haitam Taweel (ISR) WR 753 (CH 635 Jun 2014)
L32: Jonny O'Mara WR 1222 v (Q) Patrick Zahraj (GER) UNR
L32: (2) Richard Gabb WR 547 v (WC) Mousa Shanan Zayed (QAT) WR 2220 (CH 1668 Oct 2012)

Jamie drew the shortest straw but other than that, a decent draw for the rest.

Edit

Above updated to reflect change of opponent for Luke.

Definitely expect a British winner here. Bambo has the plum draw.

WC followed by 8th, 4th, 2nd and 1st seeds.

Granted seedings don't always materialise but on paper it's as easy a draw he could've asked for!

Gleb S won the title last week. And was runner-up the week before. (Might be tired?) But he's been around a while. Knows the ropes.

I'm hoping for a good run from Richard too.

Luke's WC seems to have disappeared and he now has a LL instead, Joel Kincaid (USA).

Luke's winning, though, which is all that matters really ....

*4-2
