Interesting match up. John-Patrick strikes me as a player that James should at least be very competitive with in any reasonable form.

I really don't get why James W is not dropping down a level slightly at the mo. Im not too sure how it works with tournament entries - suppose he would have expected to have won a match or two by now when he entered Mons but could he not have pulled out and at least gone entered an easier challenger or maybe even a 15k just to restart the winning habit? I hope I'm wrong but i see his chances of a win against JPS as about 1 in10 given current form. It seems odd not to try something different.

Max broke and served for the set at 5-3 but James broke back and held - now 5-5

james ends up losing 7-5 6-1

The first set was terribly close - marzi had breaks points at 5-5...

But rankings will out.

However, James had a go at challengers a few weeks ago. Lost in Qs. And then went and had a very nice run up in Sweden in the ITF event. So let's hopoe it works that way again....

Seems harsh to pit the two top seeds against eachother in R1!

Skupski's (with a lower ranking) are not the top seeds, they're unseeded DAs.

Ah, I had copied it over from the Orleans thread and must have forgot to remove the seeding.

Including the misspelling of "Skupski", which I also edited yesterday! wink

I agree with your general point, though don't believe he can drop out of an event he has entered and been accepted for to try his luck at lower level.

He could of course have entered a lower level tourney in first place.
