Week 40 - France F21 ($15,000+H) - Nevers (Hard-Indoor)

Dave Rice (with his love for +H tournaments) should be in the MD.

QR1: Harry Meehan UNR def. Victor Joly UNR  6-4  6-1

QR1: Billy Harris - BYE

QR2: Harry Meehan UNR v (q1) Niels Lootsma (NED) WR 793 (CH 207 six months ago)

QR2: (q7) Billy Harris WR 1202 v (q8) RAMIARAMANANA, Lofo (FRA) WR 2199, age 26, (CH 1074 in 2007 when 18)

Lofo was JWR 17 and a very promising, rising youngster when he suddenly disappeared from the radar - don't quite know why.

Billy's game has started, he's held serve in the first game, on serve at 1-0*

Billy looking good here, his own service games are going very smoothly - the first set is in the bag at 6-2.

Billy and Lofo locked in a tense battle in the second set. Billy leads 5-4* and Lofo is serving, but there's been several deuces and several match points for Billy. Hopefully he can take one...

Billy gets over the line 6-2 6-4

Not quite sure what Billy is doing over here at the moment? I thought he was supposed to be back at college?

Does anyone who follows US college tennis closely know exactly what the deal is? Is he taking 6 months out? Or just on his way back? Or have I got ages/dates confused?

Whatever........well done

The Qs aren't placed yet but:

R1: Dave Rice WR 532 v Yannick Thivant (FRA) WR 590 (=CH), age 28

The winner gets the second seed, Mertl, or Tatlot, which is a first-round horror draw....

In the doubles, Billy and Harry are together. Dave is playing with Grigoriu (ROM), seeded third.

Niels isn't that good - he is just a big server like Harry. CH is 607....

Sorry for the typo re his CH !!! yes, that would have been VERY tricky.

Maybe I exaggerated but I just meant that, for a Q draw, it was unlucky for Harry to come up against the top seed, who normally would be straight in the MD (although the +H part of the 15k obviously attracts a better entrant level). Niels may not be brilliant but Harry is UNR (and quite fairly so).

Not a surprise; was thinking that was a horrid first round draw. Eysseric's CH in doubles is 175, and he's just won a Challenger. Jomby, meanwhile, has one 7 Futures doubles titles this year already.
