Marcus Willis

Looking at entry lists, i notice that Marcus is down for 2 clay 10ks in Cairo in December will be interesting to see how that goes.A couple of good weeks there and he could be back in the top 400. I wonder when he will try and change from Futures back to challengers.

I would imagine that it was absolutely true when it was written on December 1st.

Interesting re the move. Going by that id expect him to play a lot of the challenger tennis out there. If it doesn't work out I'm sure he can get a good job as a coach out there.

Wimbledon is around the corner and surprise, surprise, Marcus is back in the headlines.  The Daily Telegraph claiming that Marcus has demanded a WC into the main draw - a claim that Marcus has denied.

Here is a link to the article.

The interesting comment for me was this part.

His ranking stands just inside the top 400, but Willis has his sights set much higher. "It's a long journey but this will be the start," he said.

Marcus goes on to claim that he still believes he can make the Top 100. Personally, I would love to see him fully commit and get back on the circuit, but if in the end, family commitments prove to be too much of an obstacle, then I could understand.

Marcus talks the talk, but never seems to quite walk the walk re pushing his career on. Next month, next year, always seems to be something coming in the way for now ...

If he just doesn't have the drive and happy with his life, which has moved on apace away from tennis, fair enough, but I have increasingly taken less note of what he has to say.

If he doesn't play regularly, he won't climb up the rankings and his MDWC for Wimbledon must be in doubt.

I agree I don't think he deserves a MDWC with what he has (or rather hasn't) done this year. He had the perfect opportunity after his injury last year to get back and get WCs to get his ranking up, and he just hasn't committed. He's going to coach in the States too if I remember rightly, so why should someone like Jay who is clearly trying to make it be deprived of a WC in deference to Marcus.
