Laura made hard work of that set, but at least she took control in the tie-break. Hopefully she can be more on top in the second set.

Serves it out to love. Final point on a second serve.

Never in doubt.

Good to see a more straightforward second set for Laura. Now let's see how she does in the main draw.

You would suspect that her performance in that match was nothing to write (or email/tweet/text...) home about but job done and into the main draw. Second set Laura was much more dominant as expected, winning 30 points to 18. Serving out to love with 2 aces is nice as she hasn't been able to serve out matches at all so far.

She might well have a few of these type of matches in Mexico over the next month and you would hope she negotiates them with greater ease as she gets more used to playing lower ranked opposition.

Laura's first serve was more accurate than her safe 2nd serve. Other than that, the serve stats seemed good. She found it a struggle to win points against Kobelt's first serve but did manage to dominate returning 2nd serve, helped by 5 dfs by her opponent.
