Naomi Broady is top seed in qualifying and faces the talented, but unpredictable Melanie Oudin in the first qualifier.

Unfortunate draw given the field but I'm hopeful. Trickiest opener she could have got.

All the best to Melanie, but yes she does seem to be very much still in the process of working her way back.

So to me an on-form Naomi has good possibilities here.

I watched the Las Vegas match last year. It was very one-sided. Indeed the gulf in class was alarming, though neither Naomi's overly passive strategy, nor the speed of the court, helped her cause. I believe Quebec is meant to be a fast surface so hopefully Naomi can dominate on her own serve and perhaps steal a break at some point.

The rest of the draw, and the qualifying slots in the main draw, look inviting to me.

As AliBB indicated, just two qualifying rounds here ( it varies for WTA Internationals ).

So win this FQR and Naomi will have picked up 18 ranking points ( 12 so far ) and hopefully then get a good main draw.

Anyway first things first, get the FQR win ...
