I'd be surprised if Evo turns up in Nottingham rather than enters Istanbul Qualifying next weekend. But then again he does seem pretty focused right now and he might see the positives in having a greater chance of points at Nottingham than in Istanbul. I'd imagine that Marcus would want a WC.

Yes.

Piers Foley is another 1998-er, who got as high as JWR 329 in the junior ITF rankings.

And young Michael Shaw is a 1999-er (now THAT'S even more preposterously young - from someone a fair bit older than 24 )

Also: Pierre Luigi, Elliott Farmer,... and that's not mentioning all the 1997 juniors playing....

As said before, very good to see an increase in the young guns trying out in adult competition. And, as you say, good luck to all.

However, anyone notice the entry of Robert Jakubik ???? He is listed as a British player age 62 !!!!!!! Yes, SIXTY-TWO, biggrin

He's got a BYE in round 1 - so he;s won a match already - well done, that man. And then plays Michael Shaw - the youngest player in the draw (I believe).

But, seriously, unless there's another guy with the same name and a mess up at the ITF end, well done Robert Jakubik - got chutzpah !

CD, your reference to Mr Jakubik fascinated me and I wondered if he was a regular on the Senior Circuit (where the standard can be quite good) so did a bit of digging. Not on the seniors but a regular in futures, mainly in the States where he was a tennis coach in New Jersey. Without any noticeable success, in 2009 he played 5 futures, in 2010 he played 5, in 2011 he played 12, in 2012 he played 7, in 2013 he played 2, and in 2014 he played 3. We often talk about late starters on this board, but this guy is really stretching it, starting his pro career at age 56!

Missed Michael Shaw! He's in the top 100 on the British circuit as well - looks to have a very bright future, that lad. I look forward to seeing his results this week.

I saw Michael Shaw play this year - he's a slight lad for his age and has a nice game but nothing out of the ordinary (for that level), I'd have said. Unlike Brandon Murphy, for instance, (one year younger, I believe) who has some stand-out qualities (in my view).

But wish him all the best. And there's a lot of time in front of him. He's doing well.

I saw him at Wrexham - he is American, but I assume he is based over here.

He lost 1-6 0-6 to Tom Allen and should have been two bagels, but I think Tom felt sorry for him.

All i'll say is congratulations to Michael Shaw on reaching the final qualifying.

Bob Jakubik playing at 62 amazing, that gives Bloomers another 30 years. wink

I think Bob should team up with Sander Groen in doubles, singles is pushing it a bit at his age. I can think of a few GB players he could beat but I shall refrain from mentioning names to avoid upset.

LLoyd Glasspool has just posted a picture on twitter of Dan Evans asleep in his car on route to Nottingham, so we can assume he is playing,

I don't expect Evo to go to Istanbul either. He'll be in Glasgow in some capacity.

There's only 2 'peskies' left in qualifying - British-Based Omar Al-Awadhi and Frrench youngster Larriere.

Harry M has taken the first set off Omar so hopefully he can see that through and at least get ti down to one.

meanwhile, Imran has won his match very easily.

And it looks like Luke oakley (heard very good things about this lad) and Marcus Walters (promising) are going to follow suit.
