Not sure Liam playing a Futures event is the best idea at this point. I guess he is just looking to notch a few wins to get some confidence back but he has quite a few points to defend if he wants to stay in the top 200 and even if he wins a couple of events at this level it is not going to replace the points dropping off.
But it would mitigate the potential fall a bit while no points at all or relatively few challenger points clearly wouldn't.
Decisions, decisions ...
The important thing going forward is actually probably less about Liam's short term ranking anyway and rather more about getting his form on an upswing again, whether that's winning quite a lot of matches at a lower level for now, a couple of good ones at challenger level or however.
Just getting into more match deciding situations and hopefully getting over the line more may be good for him.

John Morris has tweeted that the Monterrey 50k has been downgraded to 25k after the acceptance list. Surely this isn't allowed?
It's been changed on the ITF site. Unprecedented and considering how "soft" other tournaments have been without being downgraded a bit surprising! The acceptance list looks pretty decent though I'm guessing some will drop out now...
WR 105 tops the entry list and all auto entries so far are within the top 250! Maybe the organisers have financial issues as the list looks strong at the moment - it looks as strong as the 75K in USA!

Yes I looked at the acceptance list and immediately thought that doesn't look bad at all.
So presumably not really to do with the quality of the acceptance list. So financial problems does indeed look very possible.
If it's allowed ( as apparently it is and I guess better off than cancel ) it's very off.
And if that's after the acceptance lists are shut and players taking themselves out or been automatically taken out out of other tournaments they I assume haven't even got a chance to change tournament !

Just thinking a bit more, rather cynically, if one really wanted to get players entered into and stuck with a 50K turned into a 25K, what better way to draw them in and trap them than a 25K in the same place the previous week !

Perhaps, but you have to assume that from next year they will struggle to attract players. I would hope that the players there this year would find a way of protesting against this outrageous decision and embarrassing the tournament officials.
Not knowing the fine print but it would seem this is a clear breach of contract - an offer on one set of terms, that is accepted, and then the terms changed.
I would have though there is a valid legal challenge to this.
I assume that there are ITF player representatives (I know that there are for the ATP). I hope that they act.
