RE: Week 33 - Challenger ($100,000) - Vancover - Hard

I still think at his current ranking with so few counters these challengers are a mistake talking about 6 wins to match points for a 15k title and 4 wins to make even a dent in his ranking. Alex ward is getting his ranking back by adopting a decent tournament selection, I just think It should be more gradual. 3 or 4 more 10-15ks then challengers.

Good luck though I fear he will need it and admire his ambition with it.

Well done Dan. That seemed quite clinical once you got going

If you think the qualie draw is tough, take a look at the main draw: Mr Edmund's opponents, were he to win at each stage and were seedings to hold, would be: Dudi Sela (WR 127, CH 29), qualifier, Ricardis Berankis (WR 74, CH 67), Ernests Gulbis (3rd seed WC) - or maybe Tipsarevic or a host of other good players ... and only then would he reach the finals.

Or more formally:

R1: (8) Kyle Edmund WR to be confirmed as top 100 v Dudi Sela (ISR) WR 127 (for now)

Allez ( or A...laa.aaay as they say in Erdington) very good win for Dan!

I know some question the go to challenger, directly to challenger do not pass go (ITF) approach, but this is Dans level and he was more than competitive in Wimbledon qualifying, indeed the only British player with even a remote chance of making it through. Admittedly being pre US Open this is a very heavily stacked week so perhaps this week he will be sticking to his mantra... Here for a good time not a long time, but the longer the better!

Not too worried about Kyle not making it through to the weekend this week, loosing in the QFs after a few tough games would give him a bit of time to get back to the east coast and fine tune for US Open qualifying (can't bring myself to calling it open qualifying bit of a golf thing)

Krajicek is in the final of Aptos this week and Khachanov is a huge talent. That said given how stacked the draw is, they're probably relatively decent draws.
