Brits on the Alt list :
N Bamford, Tom Burn, R Irwin, T Rushby, S Roberts, Jim May, I Flanagan, S Harston, A Miotto, R Wire, D Cottier, M Lowe & the one and only A Lownsbrough !
Good to see the main draw packed with Brits, lots of points available so hopefully they can capitalise and end the French domination of events held on British soil.
I'm hoping this won't be the case but I have an uneasy feeling that it will end up in a Guez v De Chaunac final.
Hopefully our on-the-spot reporter, the intrepid Madeline will be able to give exclusive reports and scores for one of the days but that isn't certain yet. .

Oh help, I can't stop laughing at that quali draw! Every single player has a first round bye! Adam Lownsbrough is seeded 7! "Last direct acceptance" = "byes"! Edit - by the way, for anybody else who has trouble opening the MTF links that Sal posts, here is another link: http://www.lta.org.uk/NR/rdonlyres/30DD9C68-3119-43EC-972F-08F7F4165767/32732/qsd.pdf-- Edited by Madeline at 14:53, 2006-03-05
Yes, Adam's 2nd round opponent is Nathan Lundy of Barnes, in Sunderland, local lad, wonder if he has any idea how good a draw he has just got.
You should have entered David, this could have been your big chance.
Yes, well. Nathan Lundy is an "inactive" player according to the ITF, the ATP have never even heard of him. Born 1978 is all the info the ITF site has. A 28yr-old inactive player? Even Adam should manage a game or two!

I should have entered, but knowing my luck I would have drawn Rushby and got double-bagelled !!!
It's really quite dreadful that Lownsbrough lost that match - shows just how bad he actually is.
In reply to ed's question, I'm not sure whether Adam's ever broken serve, I'll email Richard Bloomfield, maybe he'll know.
I was at first surprised that 15 year old Daniel Evans had got a wildcard ahead of Daniel Cox but then I realised that Cox is playing qualies for a futures event in Portugal next week so he's probably out there already training. Hopefully Daniel Evans can give a good account of himself against James Auckland, he gave Lee Childs a very close match this time last year so here's hoping for a repeat performance.
Jamie Delgado's got a tricky first round against the Pakistani no 1 but if he progresses he's likely to have an intruging quarter-final match-up against James Auckland.
Mackin's seeded to face Bloomfield in the quarters and that match-up looks likely provided Richard can overcome talented Swedish youngster Eleskovic in rd1. Eleskovic is one of Sweden's big hopes for the future and is a wonderfully clean striker of the ball.
The 2nd quarter looks like it will have the most interesting matches early on. Dave Sherwood could face his doubles partner Martin Lee in rd2 - a big serving contest and most likely a close 3 setter. Matt Smith v Josh Goodall in rd2 would also be very interesting - Goodall has the bigger serve but Smith has the better groundstrokes.
This is the first British event of the year which is being held outdoors, the players will have to get used to the slower paced outdoor acrylic courts and the balls flying through the air more slowly + other features of outdoor tennis eg: strong winds.

He was replaced by lucky loser Adam Barratclough who then lost 6-1, 6-0 to Spain's Daniel Munoz de la Nava.
Tom Burn retired last year to take up tennis coaching but he seems to be giving it a go as a professional again. His return was successful as he beat Richard Irwin 4-6, 6-3, 6-4
Burn will have an even harder match in rd2 against Scotland's on-form Alan Mackin. Mackin cruised past Ukranian junior Robert Varga 6-4, 6-2
Richard Bloomfield's massive serve served him well as he edged a tight contest with Sweden's Ervin Eleskovic 7-5, 5-7, 7-6
Bloomfield faces Italy Alessandro Motti in rd2. The clay-court specialist overcame British wildcard Niki Peel 6-3, 6-3
Josh Goodall was at his dominant, big-serving best - Bath University's Jim May posed few problems for Josh as he powered through to rd2 6-0, 6-2
And Goodall will face compatriot Matt Smith in rd2. Smith had a very easy win over Tom Rushby who retired at 6-1, 3-0 down.
Martin Lee bt Matthew Lott [had only just come off court so I don't have any score yet]
Neil Bamford secured a welcome victory over qualifier Tom Greenland - 6-1, 6-2. This was Bamford's 3rd victory of a difficult start to 2006 and it ended a 3 match losing streak.
