As long as Mark Cavendish wins a stage, I'm not too bothered about the other winners.
It would be great but it feels a long shot to expect Cav to do that. I remember being near the finish line in 2014 in Harrogate when Cav should have won the opening stage and crashed in front of Bettys Tea Rooms, his family , and William and Kate watching from a royal box.
it was boiling hot, around 1m on the route, most of them at the finish line , haha , and not one of the buggers would buy the sandwiches we had made to sell to raise money for the scouts to go to a jamboree in Japan, haha.
but amazing and Id so love to see it again in person and see Cav end his career in style!
with riders like Philipsen, van aert , mads pedersen all in form though, many others , and who can all sprint
Fabulous stage and Adam Yates wins for Britain. With his brother Simon second ! Amazing and well done to him, yellow jersey is a memorable achievement!
Even with all this amazing tennis going on at the moment, this is a moment in history that deserves marking on this board.
Mark Cavendish: 35 Tour de France stage wins - more than anyone in history.
The Manx Missile is the GOAT.
Lack of time and too much great (British) tennis to follow means I haven't paid as much attention to the Tour as I usually do, so thank you for posting this! Cav is indeed the GOAT and it's wonderful that after all his health struggles and looking like he wouldn't ride another tour several times, he's had a chance to prove it. (Off to find video of the finish!)
Just watched the finish on the ITV4 highlights and that was pure Cav...! Dodging and diving to follow different wheels, somehow finding impossible gaps to squeeze through and then turning on the afterburners! Just AMAZING and the perfect way to win his record-breaking stage.
Superb - havent seen it but will watch those highlights later. I remember seeing Cav at the Grand Depart finish in Harrogate in 2014; sadly he fell near the finish outside Bettys and in front of Prince Charles as he was then - glad he didnt need that win on his palmares!
