Weeks 26 & 27 - Wimbledon - grass - mixed doubles

R1:  Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi & Vera Dushevina (PAK/RUS) CR 186 vs (WC) Ken Skupski & Jo Konta CR 320 (125+195)

R1:  (WC) Neal Skupski & Lisa Raymond (USA) CR 189 (124+65) vs Ivan Dodig & Ajla Tomljanovic (CRO/AUS) CR 71 (4+67)

R1:  Artem Sitak & Anastasia Rodionova (NZL/AUS) CR 65 (40+25) vs (WC) Jonny Marray & Anna Smith CR 138 (64+74)

R1:  Philipp Oswald & Belinda Bencic (AUT/SUI) CR 152 (50+102) vs Dom Inglot & Elina Svitolina (UKR) CR 182 (46+136)

R1:  (ALT) Oliver Marach & Olga Savchuk (AUT/UKR) CR 115 (54+61) vs Max Mirnyi (BLR) & Heather Watson CR 131 (42+89)

R1:  Marin Draganja & Ana Konjuh (CRO/CRO) CR 954 (29+925) vs (WC) Colin Fleming & Joss Rae CR 161 (87+74)

Edit:  Two pairs of alternates have now appeared in the draw, one of them affecting a Brit, Marach & Savchuk having replaced David Marrero & Arantxa Parra (CR 58), so arguably a change for the better.

Odd that there's no partner for Jamie & no place for the Broady "bunch"  An article in today's Standard reported that they had "applied" to enter the mixed under the heading "Broady's father may watch him in mixed doubles despite rift".

Some late manoevres here.

The general feeling was that Dom/Hev would hook up, and of course that the Broady's would also get a WC.

Really really pleased that Neal got in and bagged a top partner, it wasn't looking too good for him just last week.

Given their exploits last year, I was surprised not to see Neal and Naomi teaming up again.  Didn't they reach the QF ?

Naomi decided it would be great to play with her brother. It now looks that their WC was turned down. Massive shame for them, not sure which team benefitted.

Well, if you're going to be jilted by your partner, getting Lisa Raymond instead is no small consolation. I wonder whether one of the Bryans suggested the pairing (one of them often plays with Ms Raymond, I think, and they have mentioned that they feel Mr Skupski is quite good). The Mirnyi/Watson pairing is also interesting. Lot of quite good teams, there - hope they do well! (And, to be honest, while it would have been lovely to see them play together, given that neither Ms Broady nor Mr Broady has as strong a record yet at Tour level as the others who received WCs, I can see why things went as they did)

I agree some strong pairings there, hopefully one or more of them can progress deep.
Always think that it's the poor relation for the singles and doubles, but it's still a grand slam championship!

I wonder whether that could mean that there's still some hope for Liam & Naomi...

Think there would need to be a lot of withdrawals with their rankings being so low. A shame Naomi and Neal aren't playing together again, they had some great matches last year and Naomi seems well suited to doing well in the mixed with her serve.

Presumably Hewitt and partner got the 5th and last wc, meaning he got a wc into every event , only Jo Konta can match that.

I was thinking more in terms of their being more readily available to fill a vacant slot than some of the overseas players. wink

Hopefully your right.

Jonny and Anna lost 6-4 6-4. Jonny struggled with his serve.
