Mirabelle seems to quietly be making progress each week. Anyone have any idea just how good she could become?

From what I understand, as mentioned by CD (who knows her better) recently, she's got an aggressive offensive game style. That style of play bodes well for her in the long term, especially if she is doing it consistently regardless of results, which appears to be the case. With such a style, you are more than likely to be trying to create/earn your points rather than wait for mistakes from opponents. It comes with a lot of risks but when the mindset for that style is set and the technique improves with time providing more consistency, then such players can very quickly progress in a very short time span. So there are lots of encouraging possibilities with her. Won't be surprised at all if she's top 500 by year end if she continues with her tournament schedule.

Fine, as far as it goes, but I think the 500 by EOY is optimistic. If she sticks with her style it will come in time but she still has a few hurdles to cross. If the plan is working, as it seems to be, there's no point in rushing it.

My prediction at the start of the year was that she'd be about WR 650 at the end.

I haven't seen her for several years - she was quite small but powerful at the time - I think she's still similar in physique. (Maybe someone who saw her this Easter in the UK could say?) Definitely aggressive game.

Just as background, which is part of what's working so well for her, she's at (I believe) a club in the south of France which has an Elite sportsperson training programme. It covers not only tennis players but leading young stars in golf, horse-riding and motor-racing (don't know why that choice - expect it reflects the local sports preference).

Most French academies are mixed sports - it allows great economies of scale - they all need the same (or similar) physical training, physios, mental coaches, nutrition programmes etc. And it's a very 'healthy' environment (in my view), all elite sports but not 100% tennis obsessed. It gives a good team atmosphere - you're rooting for the golf kid that you room with, or suddenly following go-karting. The individual top sports training then takes place on-site (it's a huge site, definitely got golf, tennis and equestrian stuff, not sure about the motor sports). It also continues academic studies (although it says 'en souplesse', which implies it's pretty free and easy).

Anyway, it'll certainly be interesting....

Nice convincing win and a good 2 pts. Next round is going to be harder - also  in qualies for next weeks 50k at Bursa - so interesting times.

Good to see Mirabelle slowly but surely working her way up the rankings.

A good run of quarter finals. Now needs to get in the semi's or the finals to take the next step.
