RE: Wimbledon Ladies' Draw 2015

And they had. Very tough loss in the mixed. So, so wish (as per above) that they'd been able to give her another day.

To be fair it was a close mixed doubles and Mirnyi lost his serve to love to lose the game, with Heather at fault for only one of the points.

Sorry about that - I didn't mean to suggest that Ms Watson was "at fault" though I can see how it read that way. And the fact that it was so close was what made it a tough loss! I suppose what I'm saying is that while I don't at all think Ms Watson lost the match, I think that with some more rest she might have given them an edge that would have won it. (I had them pegged potentially to go all the way) Does that make any sense?

 That sounds perfectly reasonable.

I only saw the last few games anyway so I have no idea how Heather performed in the main body of the match. I do agree though that there is every possibility a couple of extra days rest could have helped.

On the other hand with mixed doubles I think it's best to either have a really good run or get knocked out in week 1. At least now Heather has a bit more time to rest and start training for the hardcourt season.

I do think there are some exciting weeks ahead for the British women too. Heather started the grass court season on a bit of a low ebb, but ended it playing brilliantly - can she take that form into her next few tournaments. JoKo has also had a very impressive grass court season and it will be exciting to see if she can continue at the same level and push on into the top 100. It's great to see Laura back playing again and I expect she will be very busy with lots of ITFs in the weeks ahead. And finally Joss & Anna will be looking to continue their progress up the rankings and hopefully will be able to play in all the majors soon.

I'll echo that. Things do look to be on the up for the GB girls right now and especially having Laura back on court is a real tonic. Was gutted for Heather but what a match she played. More like that and she could fly up the rankings.

I agree will be interesting to see if Hev can build on this, I was amazed at her mental fortitude after taking that 2nd set. She just sat down in the chair, stayed composed, when there was complete bedlam going on in the stands, and you could tell by the look in her eyes that she wasn't finished and still fancied her chances. The fact she didn't win is not that big a deal. Imagine if she had she would have been touted as a future grand slam champ, not helpful. The crowd was huge in this match, I was watching a bit of mixed on court 17, and you could tell every point which Hev won, the noise was so loud.

If Hev can get more consistent she should be a solid top 30 player on this form, with potential to get into the top 20, lets hope thats the case.

The luck of the draw, eh? WR122 Govortsova (CH 35 but a long time ago) has faced no-one stronger than Cornet seeded 25 so far; if she beats Keys seeded 21 in R4 she could conceivably reach the final without playing anyone stronger; the top half of this year's draw has been super loaded with strong players whereas the bottom half has been pretty weak in comparison. In my unbiased opinion wink

Hey ho, maybe Heather can meet Serena in the final next year instead :)

Serena has just beaten Venus in straight sets. Probably not easy playing each other but shows again how well Heather did and I think in the same form she would probably have beaten Venus today. But still it's Serena who's the one to beat.

To be fair and this is no slight on Hev, Serena's performance today was on another planet compared to the one against Hev.

Serena vs Venus was more like it. High intensity tennis with each player incessantly looking to dominate.

I was thinking about this too... hopefully Muguruza's run will give further confidence to Jo about her own game/potential.

Side note: Amanda Carreras defeated a young(er) Garbine in 2009 to win her first 10K in Turkey.
