Drat and double drat!

Wish Amanda had stayed in this and withdrawn from last week - luck of the draw.

20-20 hindsight!

Saw Beatrice play on clay as a junior and she was a very solid player on the surface, very comfortable with it.  But still ...

Tara and Nicola play the number three seeds in the first round of the doubles.

Frustrating, from a break up to a break down 3-4*

After saving break points, they lost the deuce point at *3-2, Nik played a beautiful reflex volley but tried to be too clever with the follow-up dink and netted, and has gone off the boil since. Mad at herself and letting it take over her game.

Tara reasonably solid.

Other pair look good, to be honest the Brits probably should have rocked up to Strasbourg but I doubt anyone expected that field to have byes in it.

Lose the first set 6-4.

Way too streaky, and allow themselves to be effected by one mistake for several subsequent points.

In a hot streak just now (Nik particularly), saving break point to hold for 3-0*

Ooft, biggest serve I've seen from Nik in a while, slammed down the T to hold for 4-1*

1-0*
*2-1
3-2*
*3-4
4-5*
*5-6
5-8*
*7-8

Over and out, 64 46 11-9

Ugh. Could have had that. Unfortunately my stream cut at *8-8 so not sure if they had the match point at 9-8 or not.

Hopefully they can do better on the grass, just playing together every week won't put them in Wimbledon wildcard contention given the new policy, they need wins. Still, plenty of glimpses of a very good team in there today, just couldn't get over the line.
