The Spanish girl seems to be a bit better than her ranking or junior ranking suggests. Dasha 5-1 down.

The Spanish are a nation where juniors develop by playing the bulk of their tennis in domestic competition, rather as CD has been describing recently for French players. As a result, junior and early pro rankings can bear little relation to ability.

Shame for Dasha as she seemed to be doing rather better these past few weeks.

I'm sorry but I don't think we can really judge any unrranked player against Dasha. She herself would be UNR if she didnt play these lower rank tournaments. I assume she must coach in Egypt or something because she seems to be there all the time. I'm assuming that's the reason she plays or for fun of course.

Rumour has it she has moved there.

agree with jaggy she would probably be unranked if playing in UK  the standard in Sharm is never great

I think Dasha deserves some credit for sheer bloody-mindedness.

She'll go up to a new doubles CH now, for the second week running; so good for her.

I agree

Given the lack of home 10k events, how can anyone who's not a complete superstar get a ranking. Where else can they go!

Freya got 6 pts from 2 10k in China, 0 pts from 2 15k in Thailand - hopefully lessons learned.

Having read Naomi's blog on prize money, settling in Sharm seems sensible.

The criticism is harsh on Dasha. Yes - she will pick up some cheap points in Egypt, but we have sent this in other weak tournaments(Oman, Israel etc of the top of my head).
However Dasha must have some ability to get inside the top 600. For that level you need to win matches regularly.
I've never seen her play live, so unable to guess at her standard/ability.
