Week 18 - Egypt F17 ($10,000) - Sharm El Sheikh (Hard)

L32: Marshall Tutu WR 1077 v (1) Marko Tepavac (SRB) WR 400

L32: (Q) Alexander Jhun WR 1716 v Karim Hossam (EGY) WR 865

L32: (8) Daniel Evans WR 772 v Mehdi Jdi (MAR) WR 1021

Although Jhun is technically a qualifier he didn't have to play a match as only 11 people turned up for qualifying so 5 players received byes straight into the main draw. All 3 Brits are in the same quarter of the draw.

I guess the next two weeks will tell us quite a lot about whether Dan is ready to make a serious bid to get back to something like where he belongs. If he is fully fit and motivated the tournament is his for the taking.

And Dan Evans has the first set 6-4

Here's hoping his knee (and his head) hold out. Go on, Dan !

After a 1st set "warm up", Dan romped away with the 2nd to win 4&0

I really hope so.  It would be fantastic to see Dan fully fit, fully motivated and for the GB public to really get behind him.

If he demonstrates a good enough level over the next few weeks I would hope that he gets a qualifying wild card.

If he demonstrates a decent level of form it would be madness to deny a qualifying wild card to a player good enough to come through qualifying while granting ones to players who, with the best will in the world, probably aren't.
