Was always going to be a really tough ask against the golden girl of French tennis (although a slightly tarnished gold at the moment, 'tis true .. . )
However, Fran also playing in the doubles, with Blueberry Georges.
as is Mirabelle who didn't make the cut in the qualies.
But fran+ come up against the second seeds, and Mirabelle+ (who's a bit dodgy in the doubles department it would seem) come up against the fourth seeds, so this might be short-lived . ..

CD, looks like Mirabelle read what you said about her doubles quality and set out to prove you wrong :). They took out the 4th seeds 0-6, 7-5, 10-6.
I think generally, the outcome of doubles usually depends on (i) Level of difficulty of singles match prior to the doubles. She always gets top 400 or so player right from the first round in singles draws and always put up a strong challenge, so tiredness becomes a factor, (ii) Level of understanding/communication with partner. She always has random partners, (iii) Quality of partner (not necessarily in singles level), etc.
Since she missed out on qualies place, she must have been very fresh and could play at her usual level. Although partner is unranked they probably might have had very good understanding, etc.
Fran lost 3 & 2

Glad to spur her into action, tennislover, whatever it takes !
Still think it's not her forté - but, then, there's four people on the court in doubles (stating the blinkin' obvious) so it's always difficult to know where to put the credit and where to put the blame in any given match . . .
