Joss & Anna get an awful draw

R1: Jocelyn RAE/Anna Smith (GBR/GBR) 184 vs. Klaudia JANS-IGNACIK/Kristina MLADENOVIC (POL/FRA) [1] 55

Of what ?

Brits get horrid draws, they get great draws, they mostly get in between draws.

Unfortunately for Joss and Anna, that is one of the horrid draws.

At least as far as I'm aware they're a scratch pairing, so could catch them cold in the 1st round.

Butchered 60 62

Mladenovic is a class apart, and they were nowhere near.

Really unfortunate with the draw, tied in combined ranking with the fourth seeds, but were totally outclassed.

Shame, but forget about it and move on. Just one of those things when your name gets pulled out the hat.

Have seen a little of Mladenovic's doubles play - she is extremely good. Pity about the week, but good to get more sense of what the top opposition is like.

I really felt after seeing them play some great stuff at the FedCup, that for instance in a matchup like this they would still be competitive. Agreed Kiki is a class doubles player, and hadn't realised she had teamed up before with the Polish player, however their win/loss record is not a particularly impressive 1/3. So disappointing and capable of so much better, but obviously a bad day at the office.

They had Cayer with them at the Fed Cup, no? Of course that doesn't account for everything, but it is at least one factor, at a guess.
