RE: Week 10 - ATP Masters 1000 - Indian Wells CA, USA (JW)- Hard

There's an interesting 'Q vs Q' spot in the main draw, with the winner playing Isner...!

Good effort by James in battling through. He should certainly be rather more ready for his next match.

I'm so happy for him. I'm glad that he's in the same tourney as Andy this week too. It must be great for him. I bet he's getting time with Andy's team too.
I would be soooo please if he got through to play Isner. Not sure Isner would though
Well done Wardy

What's the latest on 'x wins from the top 100'? It's too early for such calculations for me and I'm sure someone here has done them already :)

Three wins would take him to about 95/96/97 assuming not too many around him had a decent week.

He's defending 18 points from last year where he got 8 for a QR1 win and a fortuitous 10 for getting a LL and losing in R1.

As well as having to recover from a long flight, James had to come from a set down (obvious from the earlier-reported scoreline, I know) and a break down in the 3rd:

QR1: (q11) James Ward WR 108 beat Mitchell Krueger (USA) WR 291 (CH 288 last week) by 2-6 6-3 7-6(0)

FQR: (q11) James Ward WR 108 v (wc) Mischa Zverev (GER) WR 1065 (CH 45 in 2009)

H2H 1-1 - James won from a set down in AO qualies in 2013 but Zverev won in 3 in Sarasota later that year

There was a 50% attrition rate among the qualy seeds:  12 of the 24 went out in the first round, including Aljaz (q13), Kamke (q6), Dustov (q7), PHM (q10) & Dudi Sela (q12), so Dino did pretty well to hold out as he did!  Well done, lad! smile

4 or 5 of those were also people directly around James' ranking, which is helpful.

I doubt whether it's an issue, but I guess the knee held up too.

Ah, that awful knee that didn't stop him managing to rush to catch a plane :)
