A winnable match here for Dan. The Spaniard is playing on Hard courts for the first time this year and has never won a match on Hard at Challenger level before. A third of his points come from making the SF of the ATP 250 event in Casablanca last year as a qualifier (so he is probably fairly desperate for points as they will drop off in about a months time).

I'm certain it is a +H tournament.

He was 4-2 up in the decider as well, so lost the last four games

I like Dan, but he doesn't come through tight 3 set matches often enough for my liking. Especially at challenger level. Too often he plays the part of valiant loser and gives away close matches from winning positions. Its a shame for him, I think he may lack a small mental edge to get himself over the line when the pressures on and ultimately it's stopping him establishing himself at this level.

I'd look at this one differently: Carballes Baena is a strong player, and this was closer than I thought it might be.

Respectfully disagree, he's bang average with an artificially high ranking due to a fluke tournament.

Colin and Jonny have the first set.

NB I've no real idea about Dan Cox's match here, and I think it's difficult to judge without having seen the match, or the stats about how many close ones he's lost.

But I do agree that he had the match in Glasgow gift-wrapped, done and dusted, (as far as a match can be) and managed to lose it.

However, everyone's done that some times. James Ward's match in the first round at Queens a couple fo years back is still the most amazing match to manage to lose after winning so easily for 99.9% of two sets. You'd have understood if he'd never touched another racquet in his life. And yet he's not always so bad when it comes to a close situation . . . .

Totally agree about Glasgow watched that match live he should have won but choked! Still I think Cox has improved I think he needs a big win for him to break through and at least he is trying challengers. Personally in Glasgow he looked better than Corrie
