FQR: (q8) Aswin Lizen WR 1470 v (q13) Melik Feler (FRA) WR 1625

Feler beat Aswin last week, 4-6 6-3 6-0.

Hopefully, Lizen can get his revenge this time round.

Aswin's got the first set (again) against Meler, this time 6-3. Would be nice if it didn;t have the same end result as the last time.

Aswin was a break down in the second set, but has pulled it back to 4-4

Yeh !

Our Barcelona-based Aswin (or Ash?) comes good this time, winning 6-3 7-5

Well done.

L32: (Q) Aswin Lizen WR 1470 v (SE) Viktor Durasovic (NOR) WR 862 (CH 833 Nov 2014 Aged 17)
L32: (6) Dave Rice WR 423 v (Q) Valentin Nourrissat (FRA) UNR
L32: Toby Martin WR 734 v (2) Yannick Jankovits (FRA) WR 325 (=CH)

Good chance for Dave to pick up points, but Aswin gets last weeks tournament winner and Toby gets 2nd seed Jankovits.

The good news is Dave's back in doubles action this week:

R1:  (1) Claudio Grassi (ITA) & Dave Rice CR 378 (167+211) vs Antoine Hoang & Jeroen Vanneste (FRA/BEL) CR 2135 (980+1155)
R1:  Melik Feler (FRA) & Aswin Lizen CR 2937 (1478+1459) vs (WC) Elliot Carnello [fine old Swedish name! disbelief ] & Chevaan Davids (SWE/RSA) UNR

The bad news is that they're all in the same quarter! cry

Dave already a break down . . .

Nourrissat (never heard of him) seems to be your typical high-level club player, who basically only plays a few futures tournaments in France, playing mainly league tennis and money tournaments.

He;s ranked -15, which the ITF equivalency chart puts at 1.2 in the LTA system.

But, presumably because the French have so many more players, the 1.2 UK ranking equates to three distinct French ratings (-4/6, -15 and -30), a sort of high 1.2, mid 1.2 and low 1.2, if you like, with him at mid 1.2.

Perhaps more accurate to say that Dave is now a hold down rather than a break down. He is serving at *2-3. The Frenchman has held once and all the other games have been breaks.
