Week 9 - Challenger (€42,500+H) - Quimper, France (hard)

Ed Corrie is 2nd seed in qualies, and the only Brit.  A bye in the 1st round means he doesn't play Saturday, the other seed is his section is Italian 6th seed Flavio Cipolla (#357)

Edit:  Sorry, Shhh.  Couldn't resist correcting the spelling of Cipolla's name. wink

Subject line edited to reflect the fact that the tournament is 42,000+H event, as pointed out by paulisi.

Interesting to see so few Brits. I know Smethers is over in Canada. Did Cherbourg scare them all off?

Ed will play the winner of Evan Furness - the half-British youngster - and Jouan, the 29 year-old who used to be about WR 200 but barely played last year.

I guess I'll have to do it myself!  Sorry!    For some reason, I can never remember the number of aitches in  it & when I edit, I don't see the original post, which would help! disbelief

Ed will play Romain Jouan, ex 200 or so, now UNR

Ed plays last match Sunday. In the main draw, all four qualifiers play non-seeds.

Liam is seeded 7th and faces SE Andriej Kapas (Pol). His SE comes from making the semi's in Japan....and I thought it had to be the same continent????

The H2H is 1:0 with Liam prevailing from a set down in Q2 for the Furth Challenger on clay last year (4-6, 6-3, 6-4).

So I did!   Checked it two or three times, too!   I guess I didn't expect Darren to abandon the Americas! wink  Should be in with a chance...

R1:  Sander Arends (NED) & Darren Walsh CR 452 (277+175) vs Andriej Kapas & Elie Rousset (POL/FRA) CR 515 (180+335)

Surely Ed should qualify from here...

yeah.

Ed was 3-0 up in the TB. And 4-1. And 6-3. But then pegged back to 6-5. But closes it out, winning the second set TB 7-5.

Good stuff. The opponent wasn't WR200 or so, a couple of years ago, for nothing.

Into the FQR.
