Welcome, Sofia Johnson, to the rankings. Ella back in the top 500
8 Career highs (Fran, Mika, Vic, Alicia, Mia, Allegra KD, Sofia J, Ciara) 3 in the top 100 5 in the top 200 10 in the top 300 (down 1 - Jodie down to 397) 19 in the top 500 (up 1 - Ella up to 479, Alice up to 500, Millie R down to 521) 50 with a WTA ranking (up 1 - Sofia Johnson in) 73 with at least 1 WTA point (down 1 - Athina Schlepphorst off)
Back on Page 1 of this thread Michael D posted a list on just 27 ranked women in May 2018 - although that might not be a complete list. A few weeks later CD posted a list with 32 players. So 50 is a big improvement

After this the "ITF World Tour" came into being and excluded lots of players from the WTA ramkings.

Could someone please explain to me why Katie has to include a zero counter for the W500 in Ningbo which forces her to exclude a valid counter from another W500 in Tokyo the month before? I am well aware of the rules around mandatory W1000 events but had no idea there were mandatory 500s. It seems really unfair - especially for a player outside the top 100. I don't understand the logic here.

Over a calendar year she has to play up to 6 W500s that her ranking would get her accepted into. As, presumably, her ranking would have got her into at least 6 500s last year had she entered and she didn't play 6 she has to carry a 0 point counter for each W500 she is under. The 0 pointer will be replaced the next time she plays a 500. The rule has slightly changed this year as a WTA500 will now only be a commitment tournament if their ranking would have them accepted if they are in the top 50. It applied to everyone last year.
The WTA logic is that they are trying to force the top players to play the same high level events regularly to create a narrative.

Thank you Lambda. I find it very hard to keep up with all these changes so I very much appreciate those on this board who can explain it in simple language!!
I just checked what the latest set of results has done to the live rankings. Emma up 3 to 27, Sonay up 12 to 49, Fran up 2 to 65, Katie up 3 to 117. Looking good, hopefully with more to come.
Nice to see climbs from our top 100 with Katie re-entering the top 100. Birmingham points added has some good climbers further down with Millie, Hannah, Katy and Ruby all climbing and Eliz re-entering the rankings. The same players, except Ruby, will gain next week when Sheffield points go on.
2 Career highs (Fran, Ruby) 4 in the top 100 (up 1, Katie up to 84) 5 in the top 200 10 in the top 300 19 in the top 500 (Millie R back in 474, Alice drops to 508) 51 with a WTA ranking (up 1 - Eliz in) 73 with at least 1 WTA point
