With May done and dusted, the biggest mover in the GB Top25 was Jasmine who climbed +4 to GB#24, followed by a plethra of players up +3 (Sonay, Eden, Freya, Anna and Talia!). Biggest faller was Katy Dunne who dropped 7 places to GB#25, followed by EWS down 6 (and out of the Top25) to GB#28.
Two new welcome additions to the rankings this week - Isabelle Lacy and Eleanor Baglow. Tanysha Dissanayake unfortunately loses her ranking. That brings us to 43 women with a WTA ranking. Elsewhere lots of big rises, including a massive rise for Anna Brogan and welcome return to winning ways for Amanda and Emilie. Main faller of note is Katy Dunne who falls out of the top 1000. She must have had another set back in returning having withdrawn from several weeks of tournaments on 24 April.
6/6/2022 GB Top 15 11 (+1) Emma Raducanu 102 (+1) Heather Watson 114 (-3) Harriet Dart 136 (+3) Katie Boulter 190 (-13) Fran Jones
Katy was entered for several tournaments in June, but withdrew from them all at the end of April. I haven't seen anything about her training or playing since.
Lily and Jodie go ahead of Swan to take GB6 and GB7 respectively. Timely rises with Wimbledon WCs to be selected this week. Fran drops out of the top 200 while Beth enters the top 300 for the first time.
13/6/2022 GB Top 15 11 (=) Emma Raducanu 102 (=) Heather Watson 106 (+8) Harriet Dart 141 (-5) Katie Boulter 202 (-12) Fran Jones
Another good week in the rankings for several women, in particular Jodie, Sonay, Anna and Ranah. Ranah Stoiber is our 7th new WTA ranked woman this year, in at WR986. Jodie rises into the top 200 for the first time to become the clear GB#5. Sony into the top 250 and Anna into the top 500. Harriet becomes GB#2 again as Heather's Birmingham points from last year drop. Fran drops out of the top 200 as her injury starts to hit her ranking.
As the last ranking points from grass to be added this year go on, many of our top women can claim to have had a successful few weeks. This week, Harriet moves back in the top 100, Katie B moves above Heather and Jodie climbs into the top 150. Katie S makes it 6 women in the top 200.
Back at the end of May (23/05/22), compared with now, a month later (27/02), before no-pointer Wimbly:
Harriet - 111 - now 94 (+17)
Katie B - 139 - now 118 (+21)
Katie S - 220 - now 184 (+36)
Lily - 244 - now 204 (+40)
Jodie - 260 - now 141 (+119)
Sonay - 284 - now 226 (+58)
Beth - 314 - now 292 (+22)
Also worth pointing out that the last set of stats I saw has the average age for a woman tennis player's peak ranking to be about 26.8 years.
In our top 15 singles, we only have three players who are over this age (Heather, Sam and Tara).
We have three players who are spot on 26 (Lily, Beth and Eden)
We have five players aged 22-25 (Harriet, Katie B, Jodie, Katie S and Naiktha)
And four players who are 21 or under (Emma, Fran, Sonay and Matilda)
With June complete, the biggest mover in the GB Top25 was Anna Brogan, who climbed +6 places to GB#16. Runner up was Jodie up +3 places to GB#5. Biggest faller was Katy Dunne who dropped -5 places from GB#25 GB#30. Next biggest fallers were Fran and Maia both down 3 to GB#8 and GB#22.
July's movers. The biggest climber in the Top25 singles is a tie between 5 players, all up +2 places: Sonay, Matilda, Eliz, Jasmine and EWS. Biggest faller was Fran down -3 to GB#11, followed by numerous players down -2 : Katie Swan, Naiktha and Emily Appleton.
As the rankings haven't been posted here for a while, here are last weeks. I'll post this week's when the WTA publish their pdf, as I'm trying something out to construct this without needing to type anything out and for that I need the pdf
