Great graphs ! (I don't do women's - or only occasionally if there's been a gap and I think it might be useful going forward to have a record)

Love the colours....

The Emma variant is showing exponential growth!

live-tennis and OER are diverging in their live ranking points for quite a number of players due to their different treatment of points from 2020 ITF tournaments.

The official WTA rankings have so far not taken off anything for 2020 ITFs, while continuing to take 50% off 2019 ITFs.

OER has assumed that will continue. But live-tennis is taking 50% off from 2020 ITFs for 20/09 and also backdatedly for the 13/09 update. I suspect OER is right in the sense of predicting what the WTA will continue to do with its rankings.

2 GB top 10 players are affected by this. Live ranking points showing for them are:
OER: Fran 467 points, Jodie 317 points
live-tennis: Fran 458 points, Jodie 302 points

I noticed some slight differences yesterday when I first looked at the rankings, so had to give it 24 hours to make sure the WTA had finalised their tables before I could do the predictions table. It was mainlly +/- a place or two though.

With such a notable week for the changes rankings it can't go without being recorded for prosperity. Congratulations to Emma rising 127 places, shattering her previous CH and on becoming GB#1. .

Elsewhere in the rankings, it is lovely to see lots of green as every one of our top 15 moves up with the exception of Jo who falls out of the top 50 for the first time since September 2015. Jo will fall further next week as Rome 2020 points drop off.

Heather benefits from all players around her dropping US Open 2019 or 2020 points and climbs 5 places as a result. Although Harriet qualified for US Open she only covered the points from US Open 2019 that dropped so has no change in ranking points, but still climbs 7 places. Fran reaching the final in Montreux last week keeps her above Katie B.

Beth also deserves a mention climbing another 49 places to 486. That is up 94 places on 3 weeks ago.

With all the WTA points from 2019 finally dropping on November 9th I really can't see why all the ITF points from 2019 can't be dropped at the same time. Frankly ridiculous for them to be carried into a third year.
The rankings remain a clear mess and players such as Heather are badly over ranked based on their form this year.

I was wondering if the remaining points from 2019 ITF tournaments before November 2019 might indeed be dropped on November 8th 2021? Then carry on fully dropping ITFs on their 2 year anniversaries? I agree that to keep them any longer seems too much.

Has anyone seen anything definitive from the WTA about their plans for ITFs? Although ITF tournaments form such a part of their rankings, the WTA have a habit of only talking about WTA tournaments in their ranking statements.

ITF seem to be continuing just to drop 50% this year and the rest will go in 2022 along with 2021 events as usual. Always possible they will announce a last minute switch up but suspect not now.

While yes they have so far continued ro reduce 2019 ITFs by 50% they have not been reducing 2020 ITFs at all since their anniversaries became relevant again.

To take all the remaining 50% of 2019s, full 2020s and full 2021 ITF points off all together on their anniversaries in 2022 seems far too much all together!! Surely at least deal with the 2019 ones before then plus they arguably should be at least reducing the 2020 ones to more taper the back to normality.

This is the April 2021 - Dec 2021 increased points table.

Reverts to normal in 2022.

Still all a bit of a mystery to me but hey.....

I've not seen anything since the ITF statement in April

On 21 March 2021, the WTA announced adjustments to the WTA Ranking system for the continued schedule modifications affecting the Tour calendar following the 2020 pandemic-shortened season. These changes include allowing players to carry 50 per cent of their 2019 ranking points earned at ITF World Tennis Tour events from March 2019-December 2019 for an additional 52 weeks until 2022; and for 2020 points earned at ITF World Tennis Tour events to remain on for 104 weeks.

Thanks. So there seems nothing definitively in the public domain to suggest that they are not going to take the remaining 50% of 2019 ITFs off after 156 weeks, the full 2020 ITFs after 104 weeks and the full 2021 ITFs after 52 weeks, all together! OK, thst would just be the 3 years together for the last few months of 2022 on the anniversaries after 2020s started up again but still. There could be a lot of counters to come off after the US Open 2022 fortnight!

I remain thinking / hoping that they will at least scrub the remaining 2019 ITFs before then eg. say on that 8th November 2021 drop date for the remaining 2019 WTA tournament points or at the end of this year. So that they at most will be taking off the 2020 and 2021s together.

Biggest mover this week is Matilda to a new career high of 718 as her 15 points from the 1st week in Johannesburg go on. She can look forward to another big jump next week with another 15 points to add. A very big welcome to the WTA rankings to Jasmine Conway who enters at 1289. Congratulations. In the battle for GB#5 Fran takes it back from Katie B, climbing to a new CH of 155. If these two continue to get points and climb the rankings it will soon be a 3 way battle for GB#4 with Harriet. Oddly, despite not playing for nearly a whole year, Katy Dunne is our 2nd highest climber (excluding the new entry) and climbs 7 places to 441. As reported elsewhere, she returns to domestic competition this week in the UK Pro League.

22 (=) Raducanu
56 (+2) Watson
78 (+3) Konta
141 (+3) Dart
155 (+5) Jones **NCH**
157 (=) Boulter

441 (+7) Dunne
718 (+111) Mutavdzic **NCH**
1289 (NE) Conway **NCH**
