Big fortnight for Jo. She's got 2x 55 coming off for Birmingham and Eastbourne plus 430 to defend at Wimbledon and then there's the 180 she is still carrying from Rabat 2019. Not sure when they drop off. A 1st round loss at Wimbledon could see a possible 700 net loss, including Rabat,  which could drop her into the 40s. She actually looked pretty good at Nottingham though the field was weak. Just hope her knee can hold up.

Harriet has a decent chance to improve her ranking as long as she avoids a first round Wimbledon defeat. Heather, I have to say I think she is one of our players benefiting most from the current ranking system. She's carrying a lot of points from the the first two/three months of 2020 which on this year's form she probably wouldn't have defended and of course half of any decent ITF points too.

Since its the end of the month, here's a couple of updated graphs for the women.  Obviously after Emma's heroics at Wimbledon, her progress is the most eye catching, although Katie B has also made an impressive climb up the UK rankings too.

Perhaps the WTA should just give up and hand the job over to the ITF. Although it has its issues, at least the ITF website is usable and kept reasonably up to date.

Various ranking issues this week. No WTA singles or doubles and the ATP seem to need 2 goes to get it right, ATP pdf files are still wrong as are "official" OER scores. Good job their only amateurs.  confusewink

Yay, we have 16/08 WTA rankings.

The GB singles ranking points totals at least look as expected other than I can see no reason for Eden Silva dropping points. At 09/08 she was WR 438 on 112 points and now at 16/08 she shows as WR 448 on 107 points.

the WTA server (I suspect by an external hosting company) is down and they have no backup. Hence the ranking delay and Next weeks entry deadlines may be pushed back because no one can enter tournaments atm

Last week Eden had 21 counters, this week it is only 20 so a counter has disappeared, rather than points being halved. For a counter to drop and she loses 5 points suggests a 6 point counter dropping (net 5 as replaced by the 17th counter of 1pt). She only has one 6pt counter, at a W25 in Potchefstroom in February this year. So that seems a good place to start.

If we look at some other players from that tournament, the same is happening.

Chanel Simmonds had 125 pts but now on 110. She got 18pts at the W25 less the 3 pts of her 17th counter is the 15 pt difference

Nuria Parrizas-Diaz was on 781 pts now on 871 pts. Add the 140pts she got last week displacing a 15 pt counter (net 125) onto 781 take away the 50 pts for winning the Feb tournament and add the displaced 15pts counter back on (781+(140-15)-50+15) gives 781pts.

Anastasia Zakharova was on 284 now on 288. She had 13 pts to add this week displacing She got 9 pts at Potchefstroom. She had a 13pt counter to add this week. 13-9 is the 4 pt increase.

Jeseka Maleckova had 214 pts, now she has 209. She has no pts to add and got 9 pts at Potchefstroom. Her 17th counter is 4pts. 214-9+5=209

I could go on.

So I think its fair to conclude this is the source of the mysterious points drop.

Good detective work - to those of us not so close to these things, why would they drop points from February at this stage, or is it likely an error somewhere in the system?
