Good Heavens! this qualifying draw is stacked for a $25K!
Katy is in the same section as Tornado Black
Katie & Harriet are in the same section
Naomi is in with Katerina Stewart & Puchkova
Izzy has Saez-Lara & Moser

Then, elsewhere, you've got Vaidisova, Grajdek, Whoriskey, Harman, Pera, Mari Osaka etc.

The MD could be a $75K field,and Qualies, a $50K almost on it's own.

As with so many of the Florida events, they get ludicrously over-subscribed because of proximity to the training camps, as exemplified by the infamous Osprey $50K in the second week of Miami, that usually has a field worthy of a WTA Premier.

This is tough field. Good luck girls. Let's hope someone makes it through to the MD

Bah, I thought Katy would avoid the qualifying.

I'm not sure if this is ironic or not

Nice first match for the new year! Didn't quite feel like I was actually playing a match though, seeing as its a training block!

Interesting. I wonder if the USA trip is more a Florida training block for Katy and playing 25K matches as she goes along without full competitive focus.

Some of us have commented that Katy and Katie ( more particularly Katy ) weren't really having a close season.

I assume from that that she won?

Apparently this is exactly what it is for the 4 youngsters - Harriet D, Katy D, Katie B and Isabelle W - a training block built around the tournaments with the focus on the training.  Jeremy B involved, not sure if there are other coaches.  Believe Naomi C is there as an independent player.

OK, well that seems much more sensible. Good that they're included Harriet with Katy/Katie, I don't think she's too far behind either of them. Izzy a little bit further away.

I'm slightly surprised that Izzy was part of the training block(unless she is funding it herself). The reason for this is that the LTA said they were not planning on funding anyone who bases themselves overseas or outside the LTA. Izzy is based out in Spain.
