L32: (4) Alex Ward WR 348 v Qualifier
L32: Josh Milton WR 382 v (2) Daniel Nguyen (USA) WR 304 (CH 301 last month)

That's another nightmare draw for Josh. Just missed out on a seeding himself and gets the Nš2 seed. He was so positive going into this trip and told me he was in a much better frame of mind at the start of this season than last. Let's hope he can pull of a big result and get something out of this trip.

Josh has beaten Nguyen before - 2 & 4 in Sacramento in 2013 - but he lost 3 & 1 to him in Calabasas last year.

That I assume is because they are flying back to the UK to play Sheffield and Josh would not be expected to do to well in doubles.

Really tough trip for Josh. Long way to go to get two draws like he has, but I am sure he would have been hoping to put up a better show than he did. Early days for the new season though. Plenty of time to hit a run of form.

Alex is *2-2 in the opening set.

R1 : (4) Alex Ward WR 348 lost to (Q) Mico Santiago (USA) WR 885 ( 20 yo, CH 795 05/13 ) 6-4 2-6 6-4

Alex came back from a double break down in the final set to *4-4 but then dropped his serve again and Santiago served it out. There were 12 breaks in all in the match.
