It's Mergea, not Mergeat, SC - I'd have assumed it was just a typo but it's not the first time I've seen Mergeat on here and since he seems to be Dom's new regular partner, I thought I should mention it.

Thanks for pointing that out, Steven. I think the first time it happened, on the Doha thread, it was a typo, as I've spelt it correctly in text messages to Helki reporting match results. It kept recurring because I was simply copying & pasting the original entry without spotting the error!
Wondered whether they might, though. They're not your usual WC pairing ... and it's their home tournament. Rather glad for them (though not glad enough to hope they make the SFs)
Well done, Dom and Florin and hard luck, Jamie and John, the existing joint doubles race leaders.
As an aside re the singles here, the tournament director seems to be trying to remain diplomatic, but I think is in slight meltdown re the variously timed pre draw withdrawals, post draw withdrawals and retirements. Before his eyes what seemed a pretty strong field, knocking Sydney out of sight re the top seeds, has all too quicly essentially turned into Kevin Anderson.
He was saying that with anyway the top 10 essentially not playing ATP nowadays in Week 2, all in all discussions perhaps need to be held.
I would have thought that it would be a very good idea for the Aussie Open to do a Wimbledon and go a week later, in Weeks 4 and 5.
SF: Marcelo Melo & Max Mirnyi (BRA/BLR) CR 54 (7+47) vs Dom Inglot & Florin Mergea (ROU) CR 73 (49+24)
.....but it is the best draw they could get. Other semi-finalists are CR20 and CR45, and of course they could have been facing the Bryan brothers in the semis
