RE: British Tour 2015

At Ilkley this weelk, in the semis:

Holly Horsefall def. Holly Hutchinson 7-6(3) 6-2

Sophie Watts def. Florence Abbot 7-6(6) 6-2

The seedings/rankings are interesting, with Holly Horsefall being seeded 5, against Hutchinson seeded 8. Despite Horsefall being JWR 810 in juniors and Hutchinson being JWR 271 . . . (same age)

Does that show that junior ranking are nonsense and the LTA ratings are better?????

LTA rankings will be more consistent. JWR are only relevant if you are a regular on the circuit.

Yes, but the LTA gave Hutchinson the wildcards into the recent junior events, not Horsefall, which (assuming Horsefall was available) is wrong if the LTA rankings are more reliable.

The Junior World Rankings are what they are, based on players' best 6 singles and best 6 doubles points, and there is such a disparity with the amount players play events they clearly have to be taken with a huge pinch of salt and at least make sure you're not comparing apples with oranges.

Good stuff, I'd seen that Manisha was down to play in the Chiswick 10K next week.

At present 6 of our 30 ranked players will be unranked by the end of the year, 3 in the next couple of months, if they don't add points, i.e. theoretically left with 24 for the top 25 !

Very unlikely to happen, since we normally do manage to keep to around 30 and upcoming GB events can help.

But anyway, the two most significant in terms of past ranking showings are Katie B and Manisha, who could be expected once fit to quickly gather points.

Results of slight note:

Manisha got a win (if by retirement...)

And young Donia beat Lily G,with Mia Smith losing to Ceire.

So, in the quarters,

Manisha v Amy Hoburn,
Emma Wilson v Ceire Mullins
Debbie Armstrong v Alex Walker
Donia v Grace Dixon

Deborah Armstrong is a blast from the past - assuming its the player I'm thinking of.

I like it when we see old names pop up again too

And Manisha wins, beating Alex 7-6(6) 6-2

Well done to her and good luck at Chiswick - hope she's back for a while....
