Be good to see James back and firing. It's been a long absence. He's almost become the forgotten man.

Good to see James well and truly back and climbing the rankings. Will be interesting to see his strategy till the end of the year and where he can finish in the rankings. If he can win tomorrow hell be on 267 points, currently 222, although Id say top 100 is more than likely out of reach maybe getting to the point where he is seeded for the Aus open Qs might be an aim. He also has no points due off till April next year.

Well, this week's exploits have got him to WR 252, which is pretty pleasing. I can't see him on any other entry lists which is surprising. I get that he needs a break, but it would be a shame to waste this momentum. It's great that he's got nothing to defend until April.

One of Wardys major assests is his capacity to understand where points are available, the price and the probability of success. An inate master of the itinerary that would even put Blobs plots in the shade.

Does that mean his ranking is artificially high?

Not just now because he still has so few counters.

And fair enough if he finds tournaments that help accelerate his rise back up the rankings.

Don't' get me wrong, I'm not complaining, good luck to him, he's had such a rough ride. I was miffed when they got Kyle to play instead of him in DC when it was him who had got them there.

I have it on very good authority that had it gone to a 5th and deciding rubber, Wardy was down to play.  He missed a lot of Andy's winning match as he was out preparing just in case.

I realise that, but he did miss out on playing.

Selection in Davis Cup with Leon is not a rewards service, it's a pick who you think is most likely to get the win(s) in the particular match and Leon thought that to be Kyle for the initial singles, which I'm fairly sure most folk agreed with. Leon is very pragmatic which I like. That is no doubt also why it looked clear that he had switched to James for a possible 5th rubber.

Moving along quite nicely this season, ranked 226 from 11 countable tournaments, looking good for the top 200 before year end.
