Week 50 - Mexico F15 ($15,000) - Mérida (hard)

L32: Farris Gosea WR 593 v Luis Patino (MEX) WR 762 (CH 733 in Oct)

Hopefully this means that whatever forced Farris to retire last week wasn't too serious.

Well, he's competing in the doubles again - in tandem with one of the players who beat him & Michalicka in the first round last week!

R1:  Adam El Mihdawy (USA) & Farris Gosea CR 1820 (1091+729) vs Dennis Novikov & Clay Thompson (USA/USA) UNR (*)

(*) Thompson currently has no doubles ranking, while Novikov is WR 465.

And he gets bloody Quigley again, only a round earlier than last week:

L16:  Farris Gosea WR 593 vs (7) Eric Quigley (USA) WR 503 (CH = 479 in August last year)

H2H 0-2 - Quigley won in 3 sets in Decatur earlier this year and 3-0 ret. in last week's QFs

I'd think that Quigley is still actually a decent draw from among the seeds.

Third time lucky, please.

Farris' score disappeared at 1-1 a long time ago and the next game has just started. We'll just have to wait and see.

Shame, Good to see our Welsh Libyan Brit give the ex UK 25 year old a run for his money. Farris has really kicked on over the last 18 months! Looks like Evan has his work cut out to be the top Welshman or is there someone else I have missed. Quigley can't be far off his peak really optimistic that Farris will go past him next year, perhaps dominate some Futures events and get some Challenger experience. An outsider for top 300 status? If all the UK ducks line up we could have a decent crop of sub 24 year olds in and around 300 by December next year. 2015 looks like an exciting year roll on Christmas!

I am sorry but some of that general under 24 top 300 stuff seems most unrealistic to me. I wish it was otherwise. The ducks would certainly all have to line up and then some !!

Apart from no under 24 yos currently in the top 500 apart from Kyle and Liam who remain real beacons, this has been a year of generally disappointing progress among those outside the GB top 13 ( who have to me certainly generally been a good story ), a top 13 currently rounded off by Mr Milton and all currently within the top 400, with 9 in or just about in the top 300.

Farris has done very well, and indeed to me could possibly be top 300 next year. But "a decent crop of sub 24 year olds in and around 300 by December next year" ?? That one defeats me even trying to put my most optimistic hat on. Would be great if it somehow turned out so, but I can't really see where on earth this crop is coming from. Names please ... contendors ? ... who ?

In general I do of course hope that 2015 is an exciting and successful year for the GB men. 2014 has had many good points, balanced to some extent by some not so good.

How many under 24 ( indeed under 25 then ) GB men do folk see being in or around the top 300 by December next year ?

I'm quite confident ( though unhappy ) that that number will just be 2, Kyle Edmund and Liam Broady with Farris an outside chance and noone else close. And does Farris have college commitments, I've lost track there ?

Can anyone else give me a case and players that it could well be otherwise ?

The last thing I remember about Farris was that he was talking a semester out of college. So, presumably, would be going back in February ? Which rather skuppers being able to predict 2015 very well . . .

But I may be out of date. Or he may well have the option to roll it and take off another semester too. (When I read the college forum in the US, there seems to be a lot of players taking substantial time off).
