Well done to James, that has got to be one of his best results . ..

In the main draw, Dan Cox, Luke B and Dan S all get qualifiers. But Luke B risks getting Bossel in R2.

Toby Martin gets Andres ARTUNEDO MARTINAVARR - protected ranking - WR 558, CH 293

Adn Richard Gabb gets the short straw, directly against the top seed Basilashvili from Georgia.

Can't really complain . ..

In teh dubs, the two Dans are together, Luke with Toby, and Gabb and Scott together again.

A cruise in the park so far for James Allemby 6-0 2-0 up and should be his first point

James is 24, born in Canada and has a Swiss ranking, but represents GB.

There's a LONG (and beautifully put together, although not hugely impressive, tennis wise) youtube video of James at CIT Cornella (the Barcelona academy) so I wonder if he's based there.

www.youtube.com/watch

He certainly plays a fair bit in France (down in the south, often south west)

Anyway, great that he's finally off the mark !!!

R1:  (1) Dan Cox & Dan Smethurst CR 585 (363+222) defeated Joris de Loore & Michael Geerts (BEL/BEL) UNR by 7-5 6-7(4) [10-6]

The Dans were broken to 15 in their opening service game & four more service breaks followed in that first set!  A similar pattern occurred in the second set, in which they weren't quite so lucky (although they gave it a go:  the Belgians served for it as 5-2)! smile

The story so far ...

L32: Richard Gabb WR 601 v (1) Nikoloz Basilashvili (GEO) WR 192 (= CH)
L32: (Q) James Allemby UNR beat (WC) Abdullah Shannan Alharrasi (QAT) UNR by 0 & 0
L32: (3) Dan Cox WR 319 v (Q) Luca Giacomelli (SUI) UNR
L32: Toby Martin WR 735 v (PR) Andrés Artuñedo Martinavarr (ESP) WR 558 (CH 293 in Mar)
L32: Luke Bambridge WR 539 v (Q) Amir el-Bayoumy (EGY) UNR
L32: (Q) Scott Clayton WR 1127 v Dimitar Kuzmanov (BUL) WR 418 (CH 381 in Oct)
L32: (2) Dan Smethurst WR 289 v Junn Mitsuhashi (JPN) WR 1450 (CH 295 in 2009; born in London UK!)

L16: (Q) James Allemby UNR v (6) Joris de Loore (BEL) WR (CH 299 in Jul)

Who'd have thought that having played singles at no less than 112 Futures events (often just in qualifying, obviously) since 2006 (though he only played one Futures before 2009), James would finally get his first ranking point with a double bagel

Bambo underway and 5-2 up.

Looking at Bambo's record very consistent, but just the odd big score in there.
