RE: Week 47 - ITF ($25K) - Zawada, Poland - Carpet

Yes, she's got 12 points coming off a week after this week's points get added (and then 18 more the following two weeks) so it's probably now or wait until next year, when she has only 4 points due off in the first quarter.

Although currently in the rankings we have Katy from Tara from Emily as GB 4, 5 & 6, when you allow for points still to come off this year, as we speak, the year end "race" order is the other way round, i.e. Emily from Tara from Katy. Then again, although Emily is in pole position for the "race" to year end, clearly Tara and Katy can add yet more points this week.

Hopefully, at least one of them will end the year in the top 300

Any win against a higher ranked opponent is a good one in my book. Without doubt Katy has been one of the very few success stories in Women's game this year.

Yes, Phil, with injuries and loss of form it has certainly been a disappointing year at the top end of the GB women.

Katy, yes, and Katie plus the resurgence of Emily and Heather's comeback have been good to see though.

On the other hand, really the opposite way round to the men, we have a lot of players ( many still pretty young ) beginning to make real strides further down the rankings.

Ultimately, overall not a good year for the GB women, in the same way that it's the top end men that lead me to say that the men have had a good year. But promise, real promise, for the future.

I was looking at the top 25 table and must admit to a big omission in our current top ranked players, who have had good seasons.

Naomi Broady ! Still ranked WR 157 after reaching a CH of WR 138 and still up 77 on the year to date. Also although Katy, Emily and Heather also slightly beat our average prediction ( Katie was unquoted ), Naomi did it by 58 places. I guess her year since Wimbledon over slanted my thoughts. I do hope she fairly quickly finds her mojo again.

Add in Harriet, GB no 10, and that's 6 out of our current top 10 got a mention and all up over 70 places on the year.

That leaves Jo, Tara, Amanda and Sam and there are some injury issues there plus pleasing recent form from Amanda.

Now if these above 6 can carry on ( or get back to ) their good work, others can find the form they are capable of, these that have dropped out of the current top 10 due to injury can get fit, and the youngsters can continue their progress - not a lot to ask ! - good times ahead :)

Indie, I think you should also have given Naomi C an honourable mention

Honourable mention to GB no 11, Naomi Cavaday, just outside the current top 10 that I was concentrating on. It's great to see her back, and lately really finding some of her old form.

Also to Eleanor Dean, GB no 12, who unfortuanely has again been missing lately. I was just thinking how a fit Eleanor could have made hay in these late season tournaments. Would easily be top 10 if she had remained relatively fit and goodness knows where in the world rankings. So much as yet untapped potential.

Broken to love serving for the set

5-5*

*5-6 - Kostova has won 11 points in a row so working back Katie must have had a set point at 5-3*
