L32: (3) Brydan Klein WR 294 def. (Q) Alexander Klintcharov (NZL) UNR (CH 1650 in 2013; 18yo ex-top 70 junior) 6-1 6-4
L16: (3) Brydan Klein WR 294 v (q) Nathan Doney (AUS) UNR
Noticed that Brydan isn't playing the doubles, which is unlike him - wondered if he'd picked up a niggle. But then saw that Dane wasn't playing the doubles either and those two seem rather joined at the hip so maybe one can't without the other . ..
H2H for the QF: 1-1, though both matches were a long time ago - Statham won 3 & 5 in Wellington in 2008, Brydan 7-5 in the 3rd on grass in Mildura in 2009
So a Brit who was born in AUS plays a kiwi who was born in the UK!

The lad's done well and if there are any remaining doubters they ought to consider the effort he evidently puts into his game and schedule. He has plugged away, singles and doubles and deserves to make the qualifying tournament on effort alone.

I agree. On the info we have (I.e. nothing new), you can't keep hitting the guy for something that happened 5 or 6 years ago, when he was basically still a boy.
And, yes, it must be tough for any 'junior grand slam star' to have all that expectation and then not quite achieve it. But, as you say, to plug away in the belief that perseverance will pay. As mentioned before, I saw the guy at the Wimbly qualies and he was respectful and 'correct' on the court (in a close match) and played a nice game. Giving people the benefit of the doubt, I wish him well.
Virtually all Brydan's points have come from July onwards, so no reason why he will not automatically break into the top 200 again. Especially if he keeps playing the generally weaker Aus challengers and 15Ks.
