University Project - Hard-Court Tennis Footwear

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum, my name is John and I'm currently studying towards a Masters degree in sports engineering at University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. My main passion in life is sport, in particular football, golf, and my main sport of tennis. I was lucky enough to play with our very own Andy Murray when I was a junior and he was slightly older than me...doesn't take a genius to work out who won! :)

I'm currently embarking on a university project, and I'm looking into the redesign of the hard-court tennis sole in order to reduce injury! Rafael Nadal is a prime example of how hard-courts can affect the human body - his knees are not in fact made of chocolate, contrary to some belief.

I was wondering if you could take 2-3 minutes out your day, max, to fill out a short survey which is invaluable to my work. I have access to some tennis peers, however, in order to gain a more realistic average data set, I need to circulate this further. I would be eternally grateful to all of you if you could take the tie to complete it, and forward the link on to anyone you know who could also help.

Many thanks in advance,

John McLuckie

Done. But as per my message at the end, there are questions that I am forced to answer where there was no suitable answer. Specifically:

Are there enough styles of sole on the market - Yes, Some Change or No. Truth is I have no idea.

What is the major factor you look for in the sole of the shoe ............... Again, I am more interested in the comfort of the shoe itself and sadly, the price. I very rarely even look at the base of the shoe.

To the above two questions, I answered YES to the first (when I wanted to say - No idea) and Insole to the second, but more because of comfort than anything else.

I hope these comments are useful.

Thanks so much, Bob. The survey was created to be more of a specific survey for competitive players, who I know do take into account all these attributes etc, however at this stage of my research I do need data and perhaps I overlooked these parts and should have had 'No idea' and Price as an attribute for example.

Thanks once again though, it still helps me a lot.

I am a highly competitive player but pretty rubbish at the same time LOL.  My tennis is very "social" in nature which at my age/level, is the Nş1 priority.  But like most competitive people, there I times when I like to imagine I am far better than I really am.

If you feel the need to remove my responses from the survey as I don't fit the criteria, I won't be offended.

The only other comment I would have, given your response, is that perhaps it would make sense for you to indicate your "target" group for responses, somewhere in the pre-amble.

Good luck in with the research.

No that's great. I genuinely need feedback from all users right now, and the next stage I guess I go more into a target audience etc!

I've modified the survey accordingly for users taking it from now on, they hopefully won't have the same issues as you did in the previous version. Thanks again!
