RE: Week 43 - ITF ($100K) - Poitiers, France - Hard

This looks like being tricky . ..

But Carina has played an awful lot of tennis recently (which is another way of saying she's been winning tons) . . . might be tired though ?

Her ranking is not 'right' either as she's just won the 50K final today at Joue-les-Tours.

R1: Naomi Broady WR 143 v Carina Witthoeft (GER) WR 120

In the doubles, Joss and Anna draw Bogdan and Melichar

Updated rankings - as you can see, Witthöft has hit a milestone today:

L32: Naomi Broady WR 144 v Carina Witthöft (GER) WR 100 (= CH)

H2H 0-1 - Witthöft won 4-6 6-3 6-0 at Preston 25K in March this year

2013 was a stellar year for Tara, and during that grass court she really looked the part, but the serve is a huge issue ( shoulder op ) and she still has plenty of time to make it, but it really is in her own hands. Finding the right setup, having the best work ethic, would IMO serve her greatly, and fingers crossed she'll find that magic combination.

Shambles. Not surprised by the defeat but for Naomi to be performing so badly during this indoor swing is quite surprising.

31 tournaments is a lot in a year, especially when you play doubles most of those weeks. Perhaps the toll is really showing now, and magnified against an in form opponent.

L32: Naomi Broady WR 144 lost to Carina Witthöft (GER) WR 100 1-6 0-6

time to regroup last few results not great in fact since Wimbledon has struggled time to finish the season

Just a quick postscript on Joss & Anna

I know the ranking goes on officially, even though the event for which it is relevant is underway, but just to note that Joss & Anna finished 28th in the qualifying race for the year end doubles championships.

Although I realise that the vagaries and consistency of doubles pairings can distort the view considerably, as this year the first 8 teams qualified, that's pretty good

All gone Pete Tong for Broadz since the massively positive experience at Wimby.

I'd say that certainly in spite of this week it has generally been not at all bad either, considering they have generally markedly moved up in standard of tournaments and had a period of about a couple of months, I think it was, not competing.

Their four counting tournamnts since Wimbledon have been a WTA 250K RU, an ITF 50K title, a WTA 250K SF and a WTA 250K QF.  These four tournaments alone contribute over 50% of their current ranking points total ( 430 / 821 ) and just producing results like that over a year will have them pushing much further up the rankings.

I got the impression though those original comments were targeted on Naomi, not Joss & Anna - which is the effect to which I think Indiana has replied?

I don't want to put words in to scottie1's mouth, or pretend to speak for them though.

Err, looking back I definitely get that impression too. Duh, sorry !  I had been looking at Joss and Anna's results and clearly had them on my mind.
