Jasika's the next in that incredible train of young Aussie prospects.
Yes, it's very exciting
Brydan may well win, of course, but with Jasika as a 'banana skin' draw this week, and next week's 15k being a lot tougher (as three of the higher ranked Aussies have signed up), it shows how important it was for him to rack up maximum points last week when he had the chance.
Jasika is a funny one. Three months ago most observers regarded him a bit of a joke as while there was obviously some talent his attitude and maturity was considered questionable at best. His facebook activity (see below for his old header) consists mostly of posting shirtless selfies, which did at least prove that he was no stranger to the gym, and flirting with girls. Then he won the US Open juniors in impressive fashion by winning several hard fought matches and everyone went from laughing at him to saying how it was obvious that behind the silliness, now just dismissed as typical teenage behaviour, he was always a hard working and dedicated young player with huge potential.
You could call Cristiano Ronaldo a poseur but behind the public persona lies a seriously dedicated athlete. He gives so little away. Same with Federer. It all looks effortless but that's merely a mask for just how ruthless he is. Maybe Jasika is cut from the same cloth, although I wouldn't claim to know.
