It's so bloody unfair! There's no place in the doubles main draw for even our mostly highly ranked players, yet scratch pairings of established singles players such as Cilic & (Santiago) González, Fognini & (Rajeev) Ram, (Vasek) Pospisil & Jack bloody Sock (7), Gulbis & Thiem & Chardy & Qureshi waltz in!
Yes, I would make the exception for Pospisil and Sock - actually also intrigued by the number of singles/doubles specialists operating in tandem - it's normally more frustrating in that it's just singles players! But I agree that at this stage of the race - where the Masters points really, really matter for doubles teams, I would put a cap on random singles participation. (Yes, I know: we've had this discussion before. And I'm not saying it's generally true. But for the last two Masters ....)
On which note, a question for those who know ATP rules better than I. What will the impact be of the fact that in doubles, as in singles, all four GSs were won by different teams? I know that there's a rule that if you win a GS and are within the top 20, you're guaranteed a place at the year-end tournament even if you don't make the top 8. But does that apply only to one team? Or if, say, both Pospisil/Sock and Kubot/Lindstedt were to miss the cut, would they both get in?

The Top 7 teams are assured entry into the WTF so if 2 Grand Slam winning teams don't make the top 7 only the higher ranked of the two gets in.
EDIT: As for Pospisil and Sock. They got in on here on their Doubles ranking (CR of 33) so there is no need to make any exception for them.

On a wider point I really don't think there is any basis for complaint. Nothing here is remotely unfair; our players simply failed to make the cut because they have not been good enough this season. Jamie and John have a combined rank of 75 which would only have gotten them into 2 Masters Series events so far this year (Miami and Madrid). Furthermore they have played 6 Masters Series events so far this year and have won just one match.
In fact they arguably benefit from not playing. The 5 mandatory zeros they have for Masters Series events, plus 1 from a Grand Slam, has a significant negative impact on their ranking.

James Ward, my man ! What an excellent result. And just more proof that some of these wins are finally being strung together and not just scattered about. Great stuff :)
That is a very, very good win! Troicki is top 50 level, no question! From the scoreline, it sounds a comfortable victory too. I don't suppose there is a match report anywhere is there?
