Week 31 - ATP 250: bet-at-home Cup, Kitzbühel, Austria (red clay) - doubles

Yet another new partner for both Colin & Jonny M, but decent ones for both!

R1:  (1) Colin Fleming & Scott Lipsky (USA) CR 84 (40+44) vs Mate Pavic & André Sá (CRO/BRA) CR 113 (50+63)
R1:  Lukas Dlouhy (CZE) & Jonny Marray CR 125 (66+59) vs Rameez Junaid & Michael Venus (AUS/NZL) CR 147 (71+76)

They served for the set at 5-3, but ending up losing it by 5-7. cry

The boys save two match points at *1-5 in the second set only for Mother Nature to intervene & prolong the agony with a rain delay!

Misplaced optimism on my part when I started the thread, clearly! cry

Starting to look like a bad year for Colin, his ranking could plummet in the next few weeks.

In fairness, Pavic and Sa are a tough combination, and Sa knows Fleming's game (and hence presumably his weaknesses) well. But no, it's not been a good year for him. Hope that Mr Marray has more success in his match.

At last a bit of good news from Kitzbühel, though it was touch & go in the MTB!

R1:  Lukas Dlouhy (CZE) & Jonny Marray CR 133 (66+67) defeated Rameez Junaid & Michael Venus (AUS/NZL) CR 137 (65+72) by 7-5 2-6 [11-9] smile

I don't suppose it will be of any real consolation to Colin & Scott, but the second seeds, Knowle & Marach, have just gone out in three to Kontinen & Nieminen...

What's Ross up to just now ? Maybe I've missed something ?

His ranking isn't high enough to get him into ATP tour events.

I suspect it may be close to the end of his playing days.

He has spent the summer playing World Team Tennis, I think. No points, but at least practice.

Winnable - I hope...

The moment Ross accepted the post of tournament director for Queen's it was obvious that he had accepted that his career was effectively over. It was certainly nice to see him come back and play again after his illness but the chances of him ever getting back to his previous level was always going to be pretty remote.
